my understanding is that the game pulls from your inventory from bottom to top - left to right so you might try reordering your bombs so the big ones are to the right of the others - this is my set up and it defaults to the green bombs

I see quite a number of players using sticky bombs. I’ve only used it once to catch a princess bug coz they are fast! The jewel wing is fast too but I’ve managed with sneaky bombs. This is the only bomb I use now and got the rest with it. Super rare or beyond rare 😶

There is a few things you can do - You can server hop with a buzzy jar until you find it - You can use honey lures and try to spawn it - You can walk through evey now and again when you have time to look - Or you can fish at the pond and hope it spawns

Fortunately they're elusive but not epic, & in the same(ish) area/time frame.

no Mandy - for bugs starred or un-starred it's just rng - there's nothing you can do to increase your chances of getting a starred bug - but buzzy jars will let you know that a rare is present so you can spot it easier

I put a lure down a min before the time they spawn in their respective spawn spots. Then I set off a smoke bomb to not scare them and a buzzy jar to know when they appear.

Also I've had luck getting the raspberry bottle by setting the lure inside the ormus enclosure

5 honey lures in a row, 3 buzzing jars and some smoker candle and not a single "star" raspberry beetle - and that for weeks, that's not normal that not one spawn comes within 24h palia time - same with gossamer veil...

The trick for me ended up being to server hop! I’d start at the farm, run along the coast up to the shrine, then run into Bahari and back in. All with buzzy jars and smoke candles ofc! Server hopping is how I got raspberry and gossamer, I got lucky with a honey lure putting out a spotted mantis. Good luck, you’ll get them soon! 💜🐞

What’s better, buzzy jar or honey lure? What is the difference between the two?

the buzzy jar will show you where rare and epic bugs are located for 15(?) minutes, you still have to run around and locate them yourself, but it shows you where one is if you are near one.

the honey lure is where you set up an area that has bugs come to you for a short time. while this can attract rare bugs, there is also a chance that none will show up as well. i find the honey lure is great for getting common and uncommon bugs (uncommons needed to make more buzzy jars) while the buzzy jar sends you straight to a rare bug (and silk threads also needed to make buzzy jars).

personally, i prefer the buzzy jar above the honey lure

Pair the buzzy jar with a smoke candle. The bug wouldn't see you coming.

I've never used smoke candles and I can't really see the point of using one at the same time as a buzzy jar. You know the direction and distance of the bug you're chasing so won't scare it before throwing bombs at it if you're a bit careful. Meanwhile scaring all the common and uncommon bugs while running around (which you do a lot while using a buzzy jar) means that more bugs will spawn, increasing your chances of finding rare and epic ones.

they swapped the inventory icons in the last patch for some reason, so you're probably mixing them up. the bahari glowbugs should be spawning and dropping silk as normal - at least, they are for me. the glowbugs only spawn in south bahari away from the water, the ones everywhere else are paper lantern bugs

People pass by that area often and scare them so you'll need to do rounds or use a jar so you can get notified when it spawns

My main advice for raspberry would be to jump servers and check leaf hopper hills over and over
Buzzy jar helps since it will tell you if a rare bug is close and if you sense nothing you can just skip and jump again

Just been running around the dragon shrine for a whole Palia day, looking for duskwings in the hopes of getting a star one. I did not find a single one. Instead, I found THREE spotted mantises.

I really hope that Tuesday’s update includes either making the duskwing appear more often as something listed as “uncommon” should, or they should reclassify it as “rare” or even “epic” because this is ridiculous

you need silk thread to make silk, silk and thread are needed for crafting things and for some quests
silk is from rare bugs
there's a bunch of achievments around bug catching and catching every bug
theres quests for catching bugs
etc etc
bugs bring in gold as well
and leveling just unlocks ways to do it easier so those tasks are easier to accomplish

Ok there is something REALLY weird going on with the duskwing butterfly. I mean it's common knowledge the "uncommon" rarity is misleading, right, I'd only seen a total of 2 before and that's with days of running around the shrine and several honey lures (and a healthy stack of spotted mantises)
Just popped down my second honey lure of the morning, someone walked up to watch me picking off all the common blues.... and SEVEN duskwings spawned. Like, in a row.

Blessedly one of them was star quality so now I can check that off my list, but... what??? Either the code for that bug has something extremely unusual wrong with it or I just had the most unbelievable RNG ever

Anyway based on one single piece of anecdotal evidence: bring a friend when you go looking for duskwings, I guess

OMG!!! the devs "fixed" the paper lantern and bahari gow bugs , because the bugs had preview switched, but the mixed up something else instead.
A bahari glow bug is rare now and costs 145, gold. And the green paper lantern is a common bug now and costs 45 G XDDD

i have, i've actually got about five starred ones but i hunt muujins a lot. it is quite rare. you can easily hunt magic muujins solo in one of these two areas, once you have chopped the trees down the muujins cannot escape anywhere else and you can just shoot them like fish in a barrel.

If you're hunting alone you can also use fine arrows, they do the same damage as dispel. Dispel arrows stops the invisibility for a very short time so it doesn't change much

ahh, yeah. i've had a lot of luck in those fields by mirror pond and around the pond itself. but they are fast little bugs so best chance is to walk slow and listen so you can sneak up on them before unleashing your ambush

make sure your focus bar is full as you level up, it boosts your xp!

just gotta run around leafhopper, around their home, through the pens, around auni's tree house and then the grass between the tree house and the quick travel board
if not there, than go home with quick travel board and walk back to "jump servers"

helps even more so if you can use buzzy jar, but ive found it not neccasary after i got used to the route / loop around the area to check

when using a buzzy jar id get at least 3 regular by server jumping
since you can easily tell if it's there or not

I found a specific spot thanks to someone in this server it’s at the right side of the shrine between the shrine and a tree and next to a rock. If you put a honey lure there they will spawn. Best to do it with two people to increase spawns and take out the normal butterfly’s

This one is best to get when you have a few honey lures. It spawns quite a few every single time since it's not a rare but you need to pay attention as once they spawn they never stop moving

I've been hunting dozens or magic chapaas recently to get a starred azure tail (took me around 40 kills to get it). They're not too bad with a hunter's horn to find them (with a large loop around pulse water making sure you can detect it if they're at windy ruins). I've used dispel and I'm still not sure what the best strategy is while hunting alone. If you hit first it doesn't multiply but doesn't get stunned either. If you scare it first it multiplies but then it gets stunned if you manage to hit it once.

Bit late on the reply here, but what sylvablade said — except the significance of that is that, because arrows/bombs in the game are subject to physics, that means they fall as they travel. If the arrow is traveling faster (required to travel farther), then it falls less by the time it crosses the same distance. In my experience, this means that at all but very great distances, arrows basically go where you aim them. Less compensating for physics required (i.e., no longer have to aim higher than the target).

Hunting became significantly less fiddly when I got the upgrade

Not sure if you found it yet. But I used the fast travel sign to go to fairgrounds. Then fast travel back to farm. It was the most direct way. Then run to apple trees if buzzy jar did not ping then repeat.

FINALLY caught a starred common cicada. I know that's not on anyone's list of Difficult bugs to find but I swear it's my 3rd to last (starred butterfly and mantis remaining), probably because I just run by them and scare them and can't see them fluttering away. either way, I'm very happy!

Having done a fair bit of hunting with standard/slowdown arrows:

• normal sernuks take 1 hit
• elder sernuks (striped) take 4 hits

For the elder sernuks, slowdown arrows work significantly better than fine arrows imo. Easier to land the extra hits.

Proudhorn sernuks (disco deer, glambi, white deer, whatever you call it) are best to hunt with dispel arrows and take ~6ish? hits. I have much less data w/ counting these lol

Hiya any tips on hunting for rare bugs, I just been using a Buzzy jar around North Of Bahrain bay, and bugs were appearing, mostly millipedes, but alot were spawning and quickly de spawning within seconds. Maybe someone bug hunting too, but most probably people mining and collecting sweetleaf. Because when mining scintillating millipedes often spawn but they despawn fast or are caught. Same with leafstalker mantis and picking sweetleaf. It's better to use your buzzy jar at 3am in south bahari to be honest (unless it's for a specific bug)

I'm not colorblind and I still can't tell the difference. What I know is the glowbugs appear on the fields near Najuma and Hassian and the lantern bugs are on the other side of Bahari. So just head to the southside where original entrance is, stay away from beach, and catching glowy bugs at night!

epic bugs also spawn at the groves in Bahari Bay at midnight. If you're the first to arrive at a grove and make sure not to scare it away, you can get lucky and find the one you need.
