also team update: swapped back to the probopass + stonjourner core bc i like, immediately found myself missing them. bronzong is sticking around bc i want to try it out (steel/psychic power…) and also bc levitate makes it a useful switch-in to counteract my ground weaknesses. then porygon-z ofc, and heart of justice g. rapidash is in my sixth slot as a dark-null sweeper (putting in really solid work so far, even without optimizing its moveset - swords dance is even more clickable with mystic active and it hits like a truck regardless)

i like how many immunities this team has - porygon-z’s triple immunity, plus g. rapidash and bronzong, and a bunch of them are even things that my team baits out via weaknesses. makes for very nice switch-ins

i think im gonna try and run sigilyph as like, a bulky setup sweeper... mystic works pretty well for this. switch in on smth reasonably nonthreatening, click calm minds and recovers, click one of my two nuke moves eventually. ideally get as much mileage out of the setup as possible before switching out

45 cap gets me metagross(!) and some other cool toys to play with. more importantly though i just wanna really put this team through its paces. im feeling confident enough with mystic/animated now that i think i can start moving things along quicker

yeah, it feels... a bit cheap sifUm but i much prefer it to wading through the entire double battle at once
like bence's lineup is still scary - in particular i had to put kee berry on bronzong to account for staraptor's inferno impact - but otherwise its way easier to just, work through one of their teams first
(also i cant remember what his jumpluff has but i still have it baked into my mind from my first playthrough that priority number one is killing jumpluff t1)

the options at my disposal:

brute force makes it lean towards a set where i switch into a resisted physical attack, click agility, and then spam steel beam. this has synergy with animated, for once - the steel beam recoil won't be as bad, and if i run shell bell i could see it being basically health-neutral. id have to evolve titanix to get steel beam at this level but like, thats feasible. if i want extra damage boosts from mystic i can even run smth like agility/protect/steel beam/[psychic STAB], clicking protect against things i want an extra 25% against
alternatively i just run this thing as a defensive tank with a big attack stat and resistance to stat drops

fwiw, yez iv isn't as hard as it appears at first blush — it's much more of a box check fight (i.e. do you have the right tools to fight each mon?) than a straightforwardly difficult puzzle. There's enough solutions to her mons that I think basically any dual-tribe team can probably find its way past her, especially if you're willing to use wild cards on non-tribal mons and such.

nodsnodsnods <- girl who has noticed that its less oppressive than like, some of the lvl 20 fights i was doing earlier. 50 vs 65 is less hefty of a gap than 20 vs 35 for a multitude of reasons, and everything bulky on yez’s team also has clear counterplay (given that one of the main things to play around on the 20 vs 35 field was nothing dps-focused being very good)

I think Claydol is mostly utility rather than damage? Leyline Burst has the unfortunate downside of being nullified by 2/18 types, which makes it hard to use offensively as more than a specialized answer to stuff

catpleading waaaa ty...... dw im happy with my clear now that im like, out of whatever weird headspace i was in. i think it was the psychic dissonance of, like, hearing that my team / teambuilding restriction played into solved strats? slash dipping into the pool of solved strats and instantly feeling them make the fight trivial. that made me feel "ohh im not good at anything" for an hour or so
sang is a very cathartic cooldown bossfight also. in the sense of, the entire gameplay is just "do as much DPS as possible to his extremely KOable mons"

chesed is basically just here for the electric immunity, it lets me do a sunshine u-turns into chesed, nulls a zap cannon -> switch back into sunshine, null a profane -> repeat loop twice over for free value + chip damage on the otherwise very dangerous golurk (and then bait a switch-in to staraptor, which makyandibuzz counters cleanly enough to continue accumulating critical amounts of value)

admittedly i dont use claydol like. for long stretches of time / in a very load-bearing role, so im not sure... in my experience it doesnt wind up being necessary for long stretches of time, if that makes sense? in my experience u generally want it to click leyline burst on a poison or steel type, maybe set a screen for value, and then switch out

Its big contribution is oneshotting Cobalion's first few phases, running one screen for support, then having ground and a coverage.

Its also really good into Titanix but that fight is a joke generally. Would be alright into Victoire if she wasn't pretty easy and at the point where legends are fairly accessable

But its great into trainers as a nuclear button and screen setter, just need to pilot it carefully so it doesn't die before it clicks the buttons.

Leyline burst is a really well made double type move imo. Instead of each type kind of cancelling the other out to be a nothing move like flying press, it's got the clear niche of obliterating steel or poison types.

I had some good use of Baltoy against Eko too, ground psychic is a lovely typing for that fight.

yeah pory-mav has been on my mind bc like... it has a lot of Stuff but i feel like id have to use it pretty intensively in order to figure out which of its Stuff is actually workable in practice. 95/105/105 defenses is pretty solid, and unafraid gives it a bug double-resist and eight resists total, which seems... good defensively, if not super exciting? on the other hand, yeah, blade moves offensively
