Recommendations:

  • Unless you know what you're doing, modifying your JVM args could have unintended side effects. It's best to use the defaults.
  • Decrease Java heap size (-Xmx/-Xms)
  • Use 64 bit Java on a 64 bit OS
  • Increase physical memory or swap space
  • Reduce memory load on the system
