Cannot connect to Essential / Authentication servers down for maintenance

Mojang authentication is currently broken for many players on versions 1.16.5 & older, meaning you won't be able to connect to the Essential network or join servers (even on vanilla) when using these versions

We're currently investigating the issue and looking into ways to resolve it for Essential users. For now, playing a newer version of the game (1.17+) can resolve it or if you know how, switching the launcher to use a newer version of Java 8 will fix it too

Players on third party launchers (e.g. Modrinth, Prism) are generally unaffected due to them usually using newer Java 8 versions

Support has been reopened but if you're having issues connecting on 1.8.9, 1.12.2 or 1.16.5, please do not open a ticket as we cannot do anything at this point in time! You can track progress on the issue in #🟢｜status and tickets regarding this issue will be closed without a response
