press Open Mod Folder (we need this later)
Go to #Releases
Go to the latest release for 1.8.9 (at the time of writing, 21.08.2025, it's this: https://github.com/Skytils/SkytilsMod/releases/tag/v1.12.0-pre1)
Download that release (it's on the page at the bottom in the assets section the .jar)
Put that file into your mods folder we opened in step 1
Remove any old Skytils/BSMod versions in the folder from step 1
