I would eventually like to be able to use this daily no problem but can’t seem to get it to work for the life of me

Enable hardware accel, share what CPU and GPU you have for help with what type you should use.

lime oxide
#

How do I enable hardware acceleration and share my cpu and gpu?

#

Sorry I’m a newbie. I could probably use a ErsatzTV for dummies book, lol

vestal jacinth
#

just say what CPU and GPU you have in your machine

lime oxide
#

Which hardware acceleration should I use and how do I make sure it’s configured accordingly so it works smoothly

vestal jacinth
#

Your hardware is really weak for this not gonna lie

#

Is this a laptop?

lime oxide
#

Yes it’s a laptop

vestal jacinth
#

Yeah fam I’m being honest here, you’re probably not going to have a good experience; especially not watching through Jellyfin

#

This AMD series was extremely weak out the gate and you barely have enough memory as it is

lime oxide
#

How do you suggest I be able to use this I’d really like to be able to use this

#

And what does it mean on the logs when it says this: ‘An error occurred using the connection to database ‘main’ on server then it lists the server.

vestal jacinth
#

Your machine is likely getting so bogged down just from transcoding the media on this CPU that it is unable to get enough resources to talk back to the database

#

I don’t have any suggestions here really, this chipset struggled to even run the MS office suite without slowing down last time I used an A6

#

Maybe use HLS direct streaming mode, that’s about it, try the AMF hardware acceleration mode, might work might not

#

but you’re working with hardly anything here

lime oxide
#

I do have a pc I could try

vestal jacinth
#

I would probably start there; but hopefully it’s newer than this

lime oxide
#

I’m turning it on one second and I’ll share the CPU & GPU

#

There is no gpu is that a bad thing

vestal jacinth
#

Try AMF hardware acceleration, but again it’s really, really old (2012) so it may be better but it will still be pretty slow. AMD A-series in general was relatively poor to mid performance

#

AMF may not even work on AMD chipsets this old

lime oxide
#

That’s the pc

#

The pc is not good either?

vestal jacinth
#

It’s 14 years old fam

#

It was low/mid end in 2012, it’s definitely not good now

lime oxide
#

I’ve previously done dizquetv from the pc before and had no issue

#

From what I could remember

vestal jacinth
#

That’s why I’m saying you can try it for sure, but even a $50-100 mini PC from eBay would blow this thing away

#

might work might not, it definitely will be better than the laptop

#

If it doesn’t give you the performance you’re expecting, you’ll likely spend more time trying to make it work rather than just getting a newer, modern machine for cheap

lime oxide
#

Aaah ok I’m gonna check it and see

lime oxide
#

So if I run my ersatztv on the pc and sign in to plex and use the media from plex on the pc can I add my channels that are on the pc to my Jellyfin server on the laptop?

vestal jacinth
#

sure, highly unlikely it will run well in my opinion but feel free to try

#

If you have plex, why are you running Jellyfin anyway

lime oxide
#

I prefer Jellyfin but can’t seem to get it to run on ersatztv using pc

vestal jacinth
#

¯_(ツ)_/¯

fossil hornet
#

Im not using plex, or jellyfin but the free client app m3uiptv mentioned in the post

vestal jacinth

You would be surprised how bad the A series was, your synology CPU scores 600 more on multi-thread passmark than their laptop and has a recent iHD chip which massively helps transcoding impact. Not to mention your CPU alone isn’t literally 13-14 years old. I would not actually say your NAS is less powerful than their laptop, but the opposite in anything that isn’t single-threaded or any GPU tasks.

#

And you also don’t have windows taking up all the memory

#

For reference, even the A10 in their desktop scores ~2700 passmark while your synology scores ~2200. You have a quicksync encoder to do the work, they’re very nimble and can handle a lot. Not even sure if the A series supported AMF, and if it does, it likely will be terrible quality unless the resolution is cranked down. They also cannot use VAAPI even if the chipset supported it, they’re on windows.

#

With recent Intel encoders, you can run an absolute doggy dog CPU and still have a good transcoding experience

fossil hornet
#

that makes sense - thanks for sharing the info on that, good to know - certainly learnt something. To be fair, Im surprised ETV works as well as it does on my nas.

vestal jacinth
#

The mere job of just encoding without HW accel isn’t a huge issue if the resolution and bitrate were scaled back a lot. The problem comes from this hardware having to also decode it in software, it’s already slammed from that task depending on the source media. H265 movies and TV would basically be a non-starter. No way do I see that working

#

just not worth bothering with. Just spend 50-75 bucks on some used modern NUC form factor / USFF and move everything to one box, call it a day. This hardware is e-waste

lime oxide
#

Keep seeing this how do I fix

#

And this here

vestal jacinth
#
  • your Disney channel collection has no items in it
  • what does your ffmpeg profile look like
#

and your playout result if you click your playout for your channel

lime oxide
#

The Disney channel collection yes I know that one which I’m not worried about and I’m talking more so on the fact it says TrimPlaylist read empty playlist?

vestal jacinth
#

No one can help unless you post info

lime oxide
#

It just gave this as well

vestal jacinth
#

Try disabling AMF and play it again

#

just set to none

lime oxide
#

Now this showed up

vestal jacinth
#

and your video isn’t playing or
