#ErsatzTV in Emby as a HDHomeRun tuner?

Trying unsuccessfully to ad the m3u and xmltv to Emby. For some reason 2 things are happening when I do this. Playback almost always stops about 3 minutes in with no errors on either end. If playback does make it to the end of the program it will loop back to the point I started watching and plays the episode again. No combination of setting on either end seem to help. Just for shitz and giggles I added ErsatzTV to emby as the spoofed HDRHomerun like you would in Plex and it seems to be working correctly although playback start seems painfully slow.

I remember Jason saying once to not add it as a tuner in Emby but dont know the reason why?

What are the inherent issues running it this way?

Also I am seeing distorted poster art in Emby when using ErsatzTV? Would that be an ErsatzTV issue or an Emby issue.

Thanks all for any info/insight.

which streaming mode are the channels configured to use? you are correct that hdhomerun is not preferred when other options are available

#

also, do you use acceleration?

Ive actually tried all of them and they all seem to do the same thing if its set up as m3U/xml. It doesnt seem to be doing it with the combination of HLS Segmenter and it set in Emby as a HDHomerun. Server is on a M1 Mac and Ive selected Video Toolbox for acceleration and it seems to at least not give me any errors. Client is an Nvidia Shield. Im going to try m3u/xml Kodi later tonight and see if it does the same thing since that would bypass Emby all together other than serving up the files right? Thanks again for being available to answer questions! its really apreciated!

hdhomerun always uses mpeg-ts streaming mode, so it's an extra ffmpeg process that could cause perf issues

#

videotoolbox is limited in its acceleration (only encoders i think), so if you have a bunch of filters (resizing, watermarks, subtitles), then that would all be cpu

#

hls segmenter should be what you need

#

i think @shadow crescent uses emby as a client - curious what their config is like

I use hdhomerun for etv in emby because I can tick the check mark for hardware acceleration. Then in etv I use the new mpegts mode and nvenc h.265

oh ok, thanks. didn't realize you were also on hdhomerun. interesting that emby doesn't like hls segmenter

I used to use the m3u without the hdhomerun option too and all the same settings

#

I just recently started using hdhomerun for all my m3us

#

I now use cabernet for Pluto tv channels too and cabernet was only working for me as an hdhomerun tuner

#

That's for emby. But for Plex I can't even get my etv m3u to load into it. I think it's because I've hit my channel limit for Plex. That's why I use emby because there's no channel limit.

So I should make all my channels MPEG-TS if I am using Emby as the playback client with the spoofed HDHomerun then? How about if I go with Kodi? Can I use HLS Segmenter or even HLS Direct if I get that working right with m3U/xml alone? I use no filters at all so that shouldnt be an issue. Its a m1 Mac Mini so its a suprisingly powerful little computer. Am I ok leaving the hardware acceleration ticked or should I turn that off? We still havent solved the mystery as to why, when using m3U my episodes loop back and repeat themselves at program end? Im cool to just get past it but would love to know why its doing that!

#

Oh and when it loops I see no errors on either Emby or ErsatzTV.

the setting doesn't matter, etv forces mpeg-ts with hdhomerun since that's what real hdhomeruns provide

#

yes, kodi should support segmenter or maybe even hls direct

#

ill try using emby as a client and see if i can repro

Also to use hdhomerun I only used the IP and port. I didnt include the folder in the url from etv. But I think Cabernet needed me to include the folder in the url when entering the cabernet into emby for hdhonerun.

#

Also, he new mpegts in etv was the only mode that allowed perfect transitions when I was using m3u instead of hdhomerun

#

For emby

#

Also, if all you want is channels and not vod, you can use tivimate instead but I think it's only for android and I know it's a paid app but I just paid 20$ for a lifetime activation so I never have to pay monthly.

#

But youlle have to open up etv to the internet if you use tivimate

#

Or iguess you could use it locally
