Is that still the way to play a channel with vlc without transcoding?
It is not working for me.

you're right, looks like vlc is no longer happy with it. you might have to use mpv for now

#

are you on the just-released version, or?

ivory token

Just released. TV Headend is not happy with it either. I had to switch my movie channels to segmenter

long narwhal
#

alright, ill see if i can track down the problematic change

ivory token
#

thanks

long narwhal
#

did you skip a version? what version did you upgrade from?

#

i've gone back a few versions and it doesn't look like vlc is ever happy with it, just mpv

#

the only thing that changed that might affect tv headend would be the content-type response header

#

maybe not even that, that was for the segmenter mode

#

Actually i am not sure when it stopped working because I was mostly watching sports for the last month or so.

#

segmenter works fine.

long narwhal
#

ok, i would focus on tv headend and not vlc, im not sure that hls direct ever worked with vlc

ivory token
#

It did. That is the way I always tested my channels

long narwhal
#

it wasn't the hybrid mode?

ivory token
#

it worked even after you remove hybrid mode

long narwhal
#

ok, ill look back further tomorrow. did some quick testing on the last two releases and neither work with vlc (for hls direct)

#

mpv continues to work fine

ivory token
#

ok. Looking at the PRs. How can I get to the version where you introduced ogg?

long narwhal
#

it's in the latest release, ogg files should be scanned in song libraries now

#

for hls direct, i haven't found anything to indicate that it ever worked with vlc - even year-old messages stating that it specifically doesn't work e.g. #899814879819612170 message

#

so if you were getting playback, i think something else must have been going on

#

i think there was a time when the streaming mode override was ignored in the url and it defaulted to the channel's streaming mode, maybe that was it
