The backdash FBRC overhead, aka BRC overhead, aka backash overhead, is a powerful piece of tech that allows most of the Strive roster to perform fast overheads that lead to combos on hit and pressure on block, at the cost of some meter upfront.
While the time to react from the start of the backdash can be relatively long, (usually 20-28f, including freeze frames), there is no real tell until the character suddenly changes their motion from their backdash due to the BRC, from which point the startup can be as small as 16f.
There are several methods you can use to input a backdash FBRC overhead, and all of them require the use of the dash macro. You will know you have done them successfully if you are in the air during the BRC and drift forward (except for the crouch method, which gives no drift). For all methods, remember that dash must be released before/as you press 4, or else you will get backwards drift and your air normal will whiff.
All methods are showcased in the attached video.
-- Crouch method : 1+dash 4 RC jP/jK --
Fast to execute, however unlike all the other methods this does not give any forward drift to the BRC. As such, this variant sports particularly short range and is trickier to combo or keep pressure from.
-- Double dash method : dash dash 4 RC jP/jK --
Needs two quick taps of dash, requiring a little more time to input the whole thing than for the crouch method. It makes up for it with the increased range from the forward drift and the dash's forward movement.
-- Wild Assault method : OWA/BWA dash 4 RC jP/jK --
Works from Orange and Blue Wild Assault, both charged and uncharged, since they are backdash cancellable. Make sure to input it asap or the pushback will make you whiff.
-- Recovery method : after any move, dash 4 RC jP/jK --
Press and release dash right before the end of the recovery, then press 4 right after the end of the recovery. It's tight, but it works even on whiff.
