do you think the comment approach is a requirement? people are expressing preferences for both now so I don't know anymore

It's my preference, but what do I know? 😁 I'm really serious about asking beginners in a user study which one they prefer when shown the options and explained the limitations of how things would operate. So please don't stress about it; just make sure the one you don't choose is listed as an open issue possibility and you can let me make the final call if PEP 723 wins out
