an issue weve run into during creation is sometimes things are stored offscreen where the player cant see, but we want them to see (minigames, boss switches, etc.)

could we maybe get an option to toggle a room;s "zoom" factor? like maybe "when player in room, zoom camera out to 50%/25%"

I cant think of a diegetic way to do this though.

Maybe adding a block that works as if it's a 2nd player standing still.
So the room will zoom out more as you move away from the block

puppet that mimics the player inputs for puzzles and can be set to mirror them instead, and makers can just put it in jail for camera zoom

that would both be a diegetic solution, AND a new toy for people to play with

the game treats it like an extra player for the purposes of camera, and it copies/mirrors what you do, maybe your items too.

could be used for puzzles where you have to guide it through a maze, while getting through a maze of your own at the same time

I think not everything needs to be strictly diegetic. Having a brief little ‼️ emoji pointing off-screen towards the object could work.
