My theory is that people from Muslim communities tend to act like this because they aren't used to religious discourse. In Muslim majority countries, those who criticize Islam are often killed, imprisoned, or lose many rights and face legal consequences. This suppression and lack of exposure to difference makes it hard for them to accept difference as it is instead of accusing people of ignorance and dishonesty.

You shouldn't honestly start by exploring this point. Most mainstream Islamic doctrine believe that the only thing that really grants someone eternal hell is lack of belief, and the thing that grants eternal heaven is belief.
