The incident was witnessed by neighbors, and preliminary investigations revealed no prior conflict between the two students. Due to insufficient funds, Koima couldn't afford a private attorney. His request for a public defender was denied, even though his attacker received one. The court refused to hear three witnesses who could have supported Koima's defense, and he was not allowed to establish a statement in his defense.

The trial was conducted in Arabic, and while Koima had a translator, the court told him that because of the situation in Palestine, he should not have insulted Moussa.

Despite being the victim, Koima was sentenced to two months in prison on August 20th.
