What helped me a lot was writing blog posts. It's not the same, but I try to keep some level of in/formal tone and I think I've been doing good for someone learning alone. Practice is always the key!

I've read the Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, but I don't remember anything being said about verbosity being inefficient. And I won't say philosophy and literature aren't closely related.

I also read a lot of greek matyhology in childhood, but I forget almost everything and, for example, when I'm trying to read Odyssey or The Iliad - I'm always frightening the endless list of historical/mythological persons - and spend a lot of time to realize who is who and why Homer decided to mention all of them
