i gave @calm moat 's dataset a shot from his video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6B9K6JUgIw&ab_channel=lukomatico

not sure if he uses discord, but thought i'd upload it here anyway to make a point about MGC

#

seems like he, in the video, didn't like MGC because it gave bad results, but i want to stress that MGC is a difficult tool that is great if used well.

#

this is his default outcome from SPCC then MGC using no scaling factors, taken from the youtube video

#

vs my own result WITH scaling factors tweaked (same processes MGC then SPCC, but with correct order)

#

feel like a lot of people in the astro community disregard MGC after trying it once and getting trash results, but it really is one of the best tools on pixinsight if you actually take 5 minutes to get it right. its like using DBE but putting background points anywhere and everywhere, of course the result will be bad

#

and anyone who isnt sure which side to take, please just take my advice and watch pixinsight's offical video on how to use MGC's scaling factors, itll only take a few minutes, and if you already own pixinsight its 100% worth using

Great work mate! I do indeed now enjoy MGC, I've it to be great on a few data sets now, but it's certainly not user friendly which makes it hard to recommend during a beginner level tutorial haha 😄

Cheers for sharing!

# chilly stratus not sure if he uses discord, but thought i'd upload it here anyway to make a poi...

I was one of those people that didn't like mgc because everytime i used it i got really bad results even after spending a good chunk of time messing with the settings. Really liked the idea, but couldn't get good results. Seeing how you were able to get such a clean result made me want to try this again, so I did. And it took over an hr of just messing with it to finally get a result like yours and now I see why you say its so good haha. Probably won't take me as long next time I use mgc (hopefully lol) but I can see why others don't want to use it because personally I've found it to be pretty difficult even after watching PixInsight's tutorials. It is 100% worth the effort though and gets easier once you understand how to use it. It's a complete game changer, thanks for motivating me to try this again kekw

Also want to give a huge thanks to @calm moat for his tutorial vids as his vids were the ones that taught me to use PixInsight for the first time. Keep up the good work man! Thanks for all that you do and sharing this data, it was a pleasure to process!
