i cant seem to figure out why there is so many artifacts with my image i got about 1 hour on the whole constellation i cant tell if is because i didn't get enough data or if its because i didn't use any darks so can anybody help please

#

im aware of the dust spots i didnt take any flat frames but the noise might be because i didnt use any dark frames? if anybody knows that would be great

those lines are what we call "walking noise" ... it is an artifact that happens when there is no dithering during guiding. basically it is the result of stacking the 'fixed pattern noise' of your sensor.

the other issue are what are called "hot pixels" and I circled them with the corresponding color of the pixel. (note: the green ones got turned white due to removing green with a processing function) usually stacking software can detect hot pixels and remove them from the final images. this is what dark calibration frames are good for.

you can see i got creative with hiding the walking noise by using a mask and making it darker. i'm going to assume you're using a DSLR so the dark frames will really only help with the hot pixels.

So can stacking it with darks make a difference because I wasn’t auto guiding with my mount? Also thank you for pointing those out I knew what hot pixels were I just didn’t know what the ones in my case were because I’ve never seen them that bad 😟

when you're just tracking, you're going to get that walking noise (those streaky lines). the darks will help knock out the hot pixels. 🙂

Also what did you use to process everything?
