Hi All,

I bought a second hand PST, just wanted to ask how to check a coronado PST for rust, my images look okay atm, surface detail like mottling can be hard to spot, might just be me though. I can see sunspots fine and the overall shape is bright and red.

The seller sold it to me in excellent condition and seems to be that way. Was just unsure as I know the newer PSTs have their rusting element moved in an attempt to fix the problem with the older ones.

hey :), yeah like i said it seems okay, i cant take any pictures of the sun with it because ive got no camera mount, but generally the picture is pretty good, surface detail is just hard to see. Was wondering, the inside of the scope is that orangy colour, my first thought is that its the light reflecting of the etalon but was unsure as again i know these are prone to rust

I am using just a 20mm plossl so maybe a better magnification would help

I've never owned a Coronado but it looks just fine to me ?

Surface detail in the PST isn't the best, it's better in other lunt scopes but it greatly enhanced with the double stack

thinking of getting the second etalon for it or just saving up for a lunt
