but if it was celestron wouldnt they be testing it properly
that thing fell backwards so fast
then again some of them are in office
I mean to be fair, it got the point across
that corrector plate can hold a lot it would seem
True
Yeah. But, if the physics is right, every object has an elastic and plastic deformation limit. For something as not bendable without shattering as glass is, the plastic deformation is basically non existent. It'll be bent and return to basically its original shape, until it can't be bent anymore I guess
Glass doesn't really like bending plastically
i meant that
i didnt mean permanently deformed
like if you were to actually put a very heaving imaging train on it
while its imaging the glass would be bent
even if only by a little bit
perhaps, but I'm sure there's some way to counteract that
tho what the hell can you even reasonably put on there to bend it
Perhaps an external structure built into the scope that holds the weight of the imaging train up without disconnecting it, or even collimating the scope slightly off center so that the weight of the imaging train actually bends it into perfect collimation
Idk, not really many astronomy cameras out there that I'd consider to be heavy
yeah but then when it slews the collimation thing would be messed up
right, true
so you mean put a spider on an sct 😼
It happens anyway because of mirror flop
Ultimately, probably not really a thing to be worried about unless you're doing pretty much everything you shouldn't be doing
All SCT's and RASA's have the problem of mirror flop
exactly, which is why im wondering what the point of doing that to the poor scope was
its being stress tested in a way that no reasonable person would ever have that kind of forces there
celestron go spend your money on improving the powerseeker not demolishing big scts
Well, there is a sentiment when it comes to extremely high quality telescopes; if you can overbuild something and make it immensely overkill, it will be done, for the sake of the people in the market for high end astronomy equipment.
Take for instance the Obsession series of truss-tube dobsonians, those things are so incredibly well built and over the top, you can rest assured knowing that your scope, under proper care and maintenance, is going to last a WHILE, if not forever.
I really want a huge Obsession dob someday, they're so nice
Better than mine
This is the first edit i did i had bad flats retook the flats and reprocessed it
Also b9 plus moon is not a good combo
The hardest target ive done 5 different tries and this is by far the best one 💀
This doesn't need much explanation
Tbh that one just needs more intergration
yours is better than mine💀
granted my equipment is a fair bit less advanced and/or expensive, but still. It's actually my current best shot of Flame & HorseHead
Yeah imma try making flats again after some time
Sooner the better cause the longer you let it sit the more likely it is for the dust spots to shift or maybe even worse new dust accumulates
What scope
the moan
that video definitely belongs here in the hall of shame
It was taken using my iPhone 12, attached to a 56mm monocular. Total exposure was about 8 minutes, bortle 7.5, imaged and stacked in AstroShader.
This was before I got my Orion StarBlast
Not bad for a phone
idk what the hell i did wrong
Most likely the switch is failing. Is it mechanical?
Your exposure is too high
yees its mechaanical, its been like this since i got the keyboard a year aggo
Too late i guess, that data was taken 2 weeks ago
No better time than right now
Not home so i cant
Horrible data due to a stupid street lamp that got in the way also its only 26m
My mount was acting up the goto wasnt working and i had clouds come in not a great night but luckily i had set it to binn2
Oh and another thing when i ran it thru graxpert it flipped the image and i forgot to flip it back thats why the stars are all out of place here is the corrected version
hey it actually looks like a flame, like actually fire
Well, it's not called the flame nebula for nothing
@valid briar
ok but like why
Jeez, "I don't think I can find focus, everything looks like Hubble's Variable Nebula". Is it really 10 degrees off-axis?
makes a cool tilt-shift effect
x5dolryrasezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzmnu80000000000000000000p898u22478809zxcvbnm,./asdfghjkkl'''/zdfgklawertyioqe34r5tyu7p[;'/c,.
sorry cat
Why am I bothering to correct tilt when I can just do tilt-shift astrophotography....
don’t lie u typed this yourself
your cat speaks the language of the gods
LMFAO
I saw this on Instagram 💀
wait i just realised i tagged you in the photo.... i did not mean to lol. it is badunkies rig, wrong ping

Probably cause he cant reach focus
nuh uh thats definitely m16
Tbh looks like the ghost nebula to me
M42
i dont even wanna
You sir need more intergration
And blurx

minor failure
what in the squiggly
my eyes when i stare towards the sky too long and get that floater thingy
What was the exposure time on this
Thanks
wait the actual integration was like an hour or two
I had 30sec exposures with 2sec between
In a bad way? 😂
hey that's actually good tho
Thank you, but I feel like without tracking its just a mess
Look at em stars
skittles :3
why tf would you do the mount
its not mine
i didnt take this picture
i just found it lol
I was trolling lol, I am gonna find this person and take away their clear skies
What
Just so everyone knows, this is now FB famous.
Oh this was a moment in time
Please tell me, in which case scenario would you put a mirror in a microwave?
steralyze :3
Well, after cleaning we need to dry it, don't we?
That was exactly what he thought
That was one of the most comical events in this server
yeah it was even pinned in the general chat
zegery unpinned it
He didn't need permanent shame
Stupidity deserves to be shamed upon.
I am totally good at processing
nothing can help this
Tf am I seeing
I was messing with the background extraction on a photo and that popped up.
I think thats just a gradient map
a very weird one, looks like you ran dbe 8 times
Although it is not something you can hardly conclude it's something in space...
Imagine you have a tiny little bit of dust on your camera sensor
it actually worked fine
just focus slipped since nothing held the camera in

I have something called visual snow, which then causes starburst vision, so when I look up at the night sky is really annoying, it's all noisy and the stars look like they are exploding, I'm putting this here because I feel like it should go here due to an eye failure lmao
This is kind of what it looks like
I drew this myself as an interpretation
Wait seriously?
Having the same problem, just with barlow lenses lol
But this with with my eyes lol, not a telescope
You know your bad at astrophotography when even your own eyes suck at it lmao
how
Orion Nebula but every star within it went supernova
I have some version of visual snow too
it could be normal I'm not sure but I saw it in a visual snow example video
This is an improvement on my previous video. The patterning is probably the worst it gets, occurs during strong sunlight.
The grain is present 100% of the time, noticeable more in daylight, areas of contrast, low light, and darkness. The pulsating lines (ocular migraine) occur at all times when there is bright light, such as being outside in th...
like this one but smaller
anyone else get this sometimes?
thats not visual snow its just high iso
this is what i get when ive had too much caffeine, i get way too hungry, or i get up too fast on an empty stomach
I have that too, not as intensely as that gif represents but it's still there
I have it about what that gif looks like, it's less intense unless I look at the sky
I also get random little bursts of light for no reason, sometimes it has a pattern if I exercise a lot, kinda like a pulsing
That's actually how I count my bpm is seeing the rhythm in the pulses, it's handy with that lol
I'm assuming the reason it happens when I exercise is because of my high heart rate
is everything perfectly smooth for other people?
for me any black surface looks color noisy
Same
honestly I wonder how true that is, like do some people's eyes just have a "higher ISO" than others, and react to it the same way a camera would, i.e. having more grain and/or image noise?
wait not everyone sees that?
It does to everyone (becuase the eye dosent have anything to focus too)
this has the same energy as the whole other conversation regarding whether or not you have an internal dialogue and/or visual imagination
Mines this but also with very bright flickering dots mixed in. Sometimes I have to try and figure out if I’m seeing a star or my lack of functioning vision
@ocean zodiac your moon img looks similar to mine
purely coincidental
This is something like a 3 second exposure
thats loong
Not much inc
why 3 sec
My bad. 3 seconds worth of images
oh
It’s like 2000, 0.2 seconds exposures
i see
I’m untracked so planetary is pretty hard
my imgs were dim thats why there was onion skining
Especially at nearly 4000mm fl
woooaaahh
4000mmfl planetary untracked. Respect
Yeah
It’s 3600mm but I’m just rounding
its okay but res should def be a lot higher
There unedited stacks
I have a seperate rig for Deepsky
That is tracked
I also see white flickering dots
There annoying aye
Yeah
I have normal vision most of the time, but whenever I'm sleep deprived I also see these white dots that appear and then immediately vanish. Tho this is either pretty normal, or a genetic thing seeing as my mom and sis also have this.
Yeas but what’s not normal is all the other symptoms
why is this here
or these
I was talking to ppl
Not putting them there as summations
Its normal its just your rod cells misfiring everyone has it
Its like camera noise
It’s called visual snow syndrome and it’s an actual disorder
I’m diagnosed
It affects 1-2% of the population
The most common cause is drug abuse mainly hallucinogens like acid or mushrooms
But you can also be born with it
Like me
There is a difference between seeing it at night and seeing it in daylight
Also if its large specs thats just bacteria in your eye depending on shape could be your immune cells as well
For most it just looks like a high iso video at night
Albiet much brighter and much less noise
Yeah then thats a disorder
But what he's describing doesn't sound like it unless he sees it during day time too
Ok yeah i scrolled lower and saw that he did mention that he sees it during the day
not bad
Everyone you say
I see it in the day, I literally see it looking at a lit up wall rn lol
And I've had it my whole life
Hence me thinking it was just something everyone sees all the time
Same with the starburst vision that is a common side effect of it
LED car lights are the worst for me
That's what led car lights look like to me lol
That looks very similar to the diffraction pattern i see
astigmatism
I shot Orion at 32,000 ISO just to see what would even happen, needless to say it ended up pretty much exactly how I expected lol
your image is the exact opposite of mine lmao
lol
same
i thought that part was normal
same but at a lower intensity
Feel like this would crunch like a chip
Crispy
radioactive image
huh, why is my geiger muller counter clicking rapidly?
Why is it glowing blue and why my geiger is off the charts
This needs a sarcophagus
this looks like the result of Ai upscaling gone wrong
nawhhh 😭
How'd you get 8 diffraction spikes? Is it the OTA or a mask
Likely is just the nnormal OTA + Fishing Line
myself should go in the hall of shame
Tyis was my first try at post processing a deep sky object. Took me an hour to get this, and i was very happy with this image 💀
Background was very messed up
oh dear
yummy
Literally all I did was turn the saturation and brightness up lol I don’t know why it looks so colourful
carina?
looks to be
saturation will do that
It’s also only a 10 second exposure and I took it on my phone
I mean, it looks pretty. It just doesn’t look natural.
because its very bright
Ooo what bortle?
2
Shorp
man
Oh no
yeah
When your alignment fails halfway into the session and it all goes to shit
nevermind the First Light Optics "Zarkov Cloud Gun", I need an anti-satellite machine that redirects satellites away from my imaging field
Lol reminds me when I forget to switch the lens optical stabiliser off
so true man, hate it when that happens (i do not own a refractor and am of course lying)
Almost as embarrassing as forgetting to remove my lens cap
Nah bro once I put south hemisphere tracking on my motorised mount while I was north for 2h I thought my mount had major problems
Omg that might be my next stupid fail 😭 😭
oh my
Screenshot of 2 hours data on m81 and m82, plot twist my dust cover was still on.
My dumbass was sitting here waiting for the image to load😭
Same bruh
Mid orion
Trees are a Neusence
whoops wrong area
ngl this my best Pleadies photo
the dust on my laptops screen is even brighter then those stars
and so is using diffraction masks with a s50
ive done it before u lose detail bc small aperature
7 sisters gone wrong 😭
That looks like paint droplets on a blackboard lmao
what speed do you recommend?
didnt work
the seven sisters? that looks more like the 7 daughters😭
Seven stepsisters
ohhh this is weird, seeing the planets or moon during the day is one thing, but seeing a nebula during the day is another, that's so strange looking
Dither for god’s sake dither!
Haha that was an early attempt of mine with an untracked dob and phone
Not enough walking noise in the GIF
wait is that mine lmao
Walking noise? I gotchu
Thats insane
When your native camera app tries to find focus by having a seizure, then gives up
I forgot to focus lol
holy walking noise batman
forgot to dither properly :I
how did you make the skies look like the seas
I thought there was stuff in my water for a sec
i have a dust mote ON MY GALAXY
p a i n
oh no 😭
too low
You took flats, right? Right?
yes
Oh so is that a new mote? RIP
what
Image too dark and galaxies are too blue, the reason bcs of the backround is too much gradient even graxpert couldnt remove it
got really bad colour noise
The universe has been colonized by Central African Republic
just you wait for the uk to take it\
Nah I think you're good
perhaps a bit shaky
That's art
Neptune
Unironically looks kinda cool lol
Looks like those glass filters at a Coldplay concert
I think i have seen you on tik tok
yes im on tiktok
Ahh yes I knew i saw that pfp somewhere
It would have been great if stars weren’t 🩶
good version
You even have the white dwarf now
im looking at it now and im getting nauseous
how did you even get rid of the white dwarf before
its pretty bright in the second image
i cooked it idk
hdr
i did the error of stretching the full image
and not separated stars / nebulosity
and i did hdr
too much
First try with a dslr
Not bad for a first try
Heck of a lot better than my first try on that one
Ty, now im feeling the feeling when i was just a beginner and happy with a bad image
Yeah that's not a bad image for a first try here is my first try its with a phone and binoculars
Compare that to my latest attempt
Dayum not bad
Yeah this is my best image
this was my first shot of M42
A failed three-hour exposure I took around a week ago on Kodak T-Max 100. At some point the mount moved slightly and the guiding got a lot worse causing two sets of stars on the negative, one of which is quite bloated.
I can never have the amount of patience you have. Hats off to you!
(Im not sure if that is the correct phrase to say honestly (im not a native english speaker))
That is the correct phrase
and I agree, it's still an awesome image regardless
not my proudest jupiter (anymore)
help
whale galaxy?
More int
Yeah thats just a tad bit over 1 minute in bortle 9

Yes sir
Thats insane

I read it as jew beater
Now I can't read it normally
whoops

I feel the pain

hey it’s just a massive moon over a city
Can concur. CA is off the charts but dang the bands are clearly there.
this was my first Jupiter 😭
⚪
It (was) my first shot
2 and a bit years ago
guys its in progress trust
we both know you are showing the monochrome image because the color one looks like a 5yo with a crayon
You caught me 😭
i was actually proud of this and used to show this to everyone i met 💀
if you cant even comprehend what you are looking at, this is actually saturn 😭
this is supposed to be pinwheel 💔
I thought that was a cloud💔
Out-of-focus.
funnly enough if you make a accromn of Out of focus
it makes oof
soo there you go
a big oof for sure
star spikes are clean
I fixed it.
what ever you do. DO NOT put this in the roast my image ™️ Channel or else... you'll never be the same
post it in roast my image
I wanna know what it looked like before you "fixed it" lol
Was it somehow worse if there even is a worse
I added some red highlights to really bring out the nebulosity
wow the h alpha just popped
Got some nice CMBR
bortle9 + f12 sure is a deadly combo
I thought it was a little too dark, so I tweaked it a little
i helped out a bit too
though it wouldn't change much more than this
I tweaked the colors a little bit too
Now it's officially fixed
I felt the file size was getting close to the limit so I compressed it down to just 5 kilobytes
.
I wish i could process my orion like this its sooo beautifulll
when I get the equipment to do so it'll be the first thing I do
Absolutely beautiful work
However I felt it was lacking some more vibrance and definition
I also thought it was a little dark
This is peak Orion

NERD THIS GUY RIGHT NOW 🔥🔥🔥 REVOLUTIONARY IMAGE 🔥🔥🔥 WHAT THE HELL IS A HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE
Coma
Honestly i like this image. Coma is not that noticable (for me (you could say im blind in an astrophotography sense)).
Bit undersaturated imo
Oh yeah mb
There we go! Now its HOF worthy!
#1325311113729937458
This legit flash banged me
Out of focus
Womp womp (i have coma and focus problems)
The chicken jockey equivalent of astro.
Mariakans Chain ❌
Myeyesarein Pain ✔️
The larger the guiding numbers the better right
the guiding seems drunk
im actually impressed at how someone manages to do this. the guiding is going on a power trip (pun intended)
Forgetting to install ASTAP on the first test run and winging it
So no good polar alignment

nice astronomy sketch lol
Yup that's exactly what it is lol
this doesn't really count but i think i should put it here anyway

look at that colour fringing! phd2 i yelling at me for my guidescope not being in focus but i guess that's the problem
oh man, that unrecognizable lol
uranus
I wouldn't say this image is a shame but I think 468mm is not a great focal length for this actually and also the data was quite unclean so yea
denoise bro
and colour calibrate
It's color calibrated
i just realised it is grey but i thought it was green
pluh
mb
i felt like playing around with it but your process is better
what object is this
oh hell yeah, i can get it in my location

Seems it was an ascom initiated meridian flip instead of nina
Hall of Shame???
if u dont see whats wrong with it bless your soul
Oof
ditheeeeer you gotta dither
I was on my phone. Now that i opened the laptop GADDAYUM
I was very proud of myself. Carina, oion, horshead
Photogrpahed at the start of this year
With canon mk3 and 50mm lens
Cropped alot
What happened to Carina
Carina more like Awhellna
Horeshead more like horsedead
you know you have good skies when your (no offense) shite data has taht much faint dust
what the ai
i used stellavita
forgot to turn on center target :I
still infinitely better than mine
Same. Ignoring the walking noise, the image is phenomenal.
y'know what, there's an odd charm to these images
like yeah they're objectively pretty bad, that we can probably all agree on. But they're kinda neat, it's weird and I can't explain it
All These satelites
Uh
Noise
theyre fine, nothing to worry about
I know but they are getting more and more
Rejection will take care of that
Go up to my meridian fail
Toupteks Update for the stellavita reset my Center Target settings
…
From 8 seccond exposure to 15 minutes
Ohhh I see, the meridian flip looks frustrating
I’ve never had a sub get that many satellites
I barely see satellites actually
I see dozens of satellites practically every time I do observing
it's cool the first couple times you see them, especially the really bright and noticeable ones. But after a while it just gets annoying.
"Jupiter"
Ts not jupiter ts is J
yeah it is.... i mean i thought Carina becuase it remind me of the core
that Carina nebula looks like if i ask a Free Ai image generation soft ware to make the carina nebula And it pumps out this
Man got musked 5 times
Bad seeing overall
oh my walking noise
walked the noise like a dog omg
Womp womp
a little crop and it looks salvagable
The stars in the bottom right all turned into Hubble variable nebulas!
I think you got some galaxy in your noise and dust
ugly
that was heavily denoised
No it wasnt
It wss perfect

m4 through a celestron omni xlt 102 and canon t7i 😅 my first astro photo.
why is this hall of shame this great for a first
much better than most ppls first
it is the shame because that one act of connecting my dslr to my visual use telescope has since cost me over $20,000 and given my east coast location, very limited use of the gear.
here is the true shameful image i guess. taken through an astromaster 80az 😂
azs i think actually the short one.
as the creator of hall of shame ur a nerd
M4 out of focus lol
Had some terrible seeing, as you can see
Damn ive only seen seeing that bad in the exhaust of trucks
I also smelled a campfire, so maybe coincidentally the smoke was in front of the moon?
Idk though, I didn't see any
full moon
nice flat frame
I keep forgetting that target exists and I go after Carina lol

Deep fried
Sir what is this
Deep fried
.
Why dude.
i hadnt actually figured out how to collimate then but still wanted to do planetary
8” and dslr how tf do you do planetary gng
In better seeing.
planetary camera
Its camera + stacking selectively + time management + seeing + focus
It can be done. This was taken in decent seeing with an OTA whose collimation was significantly less than ideal.
deepfried
this isnt the right thread for this
Even tho its good, the image looks a bit too much saturated
It is
Looks fine just do a green noise removal and it will look perfect
It is NOT fine
Same data btw, i reprocessed it
Oh you messed up the background extraction didn't you
Awful data, and awful processing,
i dont know what happened here
if its not obvious this was supposed to be the moon
i can kinda see it at the top?
Way too cooked💔
Ugh
Imaged the wrong part of the North America Nebula lmao
i photographed 100 photos and i forgot the change from 3200iso to 1600iso 🥲
Bit out of focus as well? 👀
I've been there
coma
I want to be put into a coma after seeing this
Im already in a coma
What’s wrong with it?
Look at the edge of the image
Ah I see now, how does that happen?
If using a reducer, setting the backfocus improperly can do it
If using a Newtonian, not using a coma corrector, especially with a faster scope
Why’d you color it in???
I don’t even know what this is 😭
oumuamua
Its a ufo!
Unidentifiable Fuzzy Object
Thats something
Lmao
i shot 600 photos of the milky way until 4am on a school night ( last day of school) and all the 600 photos where out of focus😭
noooo
part 2 today or next day cuz it will be after 12am
so since i have no school with a total of 7h of sleep in 2 days i will let my phone do the photos and go to sleep cuz i cant function with 4h of sleep
It's kinda cool looking
its redemption day
It was too windy to shoot exposures of any reasonable length. So uh. Here are some stars.
HOF worthy
Why not try lucky imaging on some bright nebula
I actually took this by accident by saving a bunch of frames unintentionally with SIRIL while checking collimation
This is like 100x2s frames
Uh
Yeah no need to Shame it it just sucks 💔
Ik
Surprisingly this image got me mini nerd
Somehow…
Mini nerd just means you know how to take a photo and process it to a extent
I have seen some horrible photos get people mini nerd
Tell me that I stink at this without telling me I stink at this.
Say it again
mininerd is too lenient imo
I don’t think I have seen any of your photos
Man your confidence 😭💔
It's quite ... purple.
See, I'm not sure if it's bad confidence or just spectacular at roasting myself.
Let me see some of your photos
I bet they better than most in this server
They should up their standards
Here.
And here.
wow
Thank you both.
(Personally I think I need to work on getting Saturn's color just right)
Pardon my idiocy but I don't see what's wrong with this image. I want colors like those lol
part 2:
Sperm
Blotchy bg, noise, bloated stars, cooked image, bad detail alot tbh
well. you got plenty of abberations to inspect
Just get a coma corrector it cant be that hard
🤓🤓🤓
Trust me i thought that i didnt need a coma corrector until my friend gave me his to try. It even sharpens your stars
out of focus 200 photos stacked
Whats hall of shame about this i mean yeah the colour looks depressing but you got some nice detail
Well done sir
neptune
neptune pixels*
neptumor
holy
How does this even happen like wtf?
the simulation is collapsing
I think it's a weird denoise setting on autostakkert
I had it happen where all of my moon recording would turn out corrupted after going through autostakket and turned off a weird setting, and that fixed it
Balls
#🏆-hall-of-fame
Hell no
Old one lol
i think i under processed this one what do you guys think😁
😭
thin pizza slice looking
his mount sure doesnt look at the walking noise in his pfp goddang
I think Im winning
that noise sure is getting its steps in
this is somehow the most agressive walking noise ive ever seen
Oh I can give you better examples than that one
Hold up maybe not
That may be my worst one
in the video pipp made it was fine but then in autostakkert stuff happened
Go into autostakkert, then click image calibration and turn off any setting there that is on
That'll fix it
