Hey all! I have been looking into some faster astrograph neuts as I'm looking to upgrade my rig in the near future.
I have a mono asi533mm pro rig that I would be using them with, so rasa or Edge are out of the question.
I have read and found mixed reviews for both telescopes (HNT and the SkyWatchers) and probably would be content to deal with either one. My dilemma, though, is which one to go for?
The HNT has a focal length of 420mm and an f/ratio of 2.8. the SkyWatchers have 800/1000mm FL and are F/4.
I live and image in a bortle 7, so the faster optics of the scopes are appealing to me.
I like the HNT because it has basically the same focal length that I have right now and it's faster meaning that it should theoretically be better than the quattro's.
However the quattro's have a longer fl, meaning I could frame smaller objects better, and you can always mosaic larger objects, so I would open up new objects to image as a result.
There is also the thing of resolution, because the quattro's have a 1"-.8" per pixel scale meaning juicier details, however that will be more demanding on guiding, as opposed to the 1.8" per pixel of the HNT.
Either way the scope would be attached to a zwo am5 so guiding should be good.

personally I'm team quattro, I've heard very mixed things about the hnt like the mirror having tilting issues while under the weight of the imaging train, especially with a mono setup
Idk if I would put a 10" quattro on the am5 tho
Do you think the am 5 couldn't handle it?
It does rate up to 20kg and the 10" is 16kg with everything
Roughly
weight wise it's fine, but a 10" newt is laarge, every gust of wind would prob make it swing a lot
I have a 8" f/5 on a comparable harmonic mount and it does well but Idk if I would trust a 10"
Good point
There's basically no wind where I live, and when there is, my backyard is actually completely surrounded... However...
Is the difference between the 8 and 10" big enough to warrant the risk?
Definitely, plus when your scopes facing up, itll stand quite tall
I would try to find someone with the same combo, but don't get caught by aperture fever
the 8" will perform perfectly fine
that said, I've seen two people with this setup so anything is possible
Holy god
Also, looking at it this way the 8" is a little bit cheaper so I can rationalize the purchase to myself easier
there are also plenty of upgrade kits for the 8" to make it a bit better
I can't seem to find anyone on astrobin with the am5 and 10" quattro, I'd take that as a sign
easily
use a 50/60mm guide scope and you'll be around .5/.6 all the time
Brings it down to f/3
doesn't it come with a reducer already that get's it to f/3.5?
No, the quattro's unfortunately don't come w any
uh weird, at least on astroshop the 6" does come with a corrector but the 8" doesn't
Ah, I'm actually in the us so I'm stuck w agena or highpoint, none of which include it
The HNT does come with one built in
Tho
Do you think the am 3 would be a good fit with the 8" quattro?
It would be pushing it tho
too large Imo
@uncut ingot oh God, I committed. Everything should be here by 2 weeks
What did you end up getting?
8" quattro and the Am5. I think it's gonna be good. Just have to wait till my next paycheck to get the comma corrector 🥲
Very expensive
Yeah this stuff aint cheap
