Hello all, when my grandfather passed away, he left me an amazing telescope. Problem is, I don't know what kind it is or how to operate it. Could anyone possibly tell me exactly what I have so I can figure this thing out? I've googled the name on the side but what I found was different.

#

I also got his whole kit, but since he was not the most organized man out there, I’m not really sure what I’m looking at

#

I know I probably sound completely stupid, but that's because I'm new to the hobby

It’s a Meade LX90, looks like the 8” version but it also came in 10” and 12”. Lovely scope, my university used to have a pair of them in the observatory. It’ll be fantastic for looking at planets.

Not sure what the piggybacking scope is. That itself looks like a beast and possibly also used for imaging or observing wide(er)field, it’s overkill for a finder scope.

I would contact a local astronomy group. I’m sure they’d love to identify all the things in that box and help you set up the scope.
