Definitely the dob, but If you really think that portable is essential to you then skymax is specificaly for you.

But isn't 700-900 too much for an 8"? I bought my 10" for $750
As someone who owns the skywatcher 127mm mak, its a great scope. I definitely recommend it, maybe buy an eq mount too with the left over money. It's a highly portable, very quick set up time and a good star database on the Synscan mobile app. Here is some of my photos taken with it, using my Samsung A52s 5g
@karmic summit the Skymax 127 may be good, but aperture is key for planetary, and visually so the 8" dob wins by miles

Yep, I 100% agree with that, it just comes down to portability. By all means get a dob but you need to position it on level ground and a safe spot
100% agree on the portability! but i guess it depends what people call portable lol for me my 8" SCT or 6" Newt is fine for transportation or portability, but if your wanting to ride up a hill/mountain on a push bike or motorbike then it may be abit harder
