#$1100 whole set up budget need help
110 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
from my experiences so far do not get a telescope with a tripod
they are wobbly unsturdy and overall a bad experience
this is why so many people quit stargazing
because of their poor experience
i recommend getting a 8 inch dobsonian telescope to start with but if you want you can go further to a 10 inch dobsonian however I warn you that a 10 or 12 inch dosbonian is quite large and heavy
silly guy
ge wants to take pictures
@next bone at that budget yuo gotta choose between astrophtotragphy and visual
you can have both but one or the other will be compromised a lot
choose between a visual/planetary setup and a deepsky imaging setup
oh mb
Deep sky imaging setup
@next bone do you have a dslr or anything yet
I recommend a star adventurer 2i pro pack, star adventurer tripod, Nikon d5300, roki 135 f2
And intervalometer and dew heaters
I do not have anything yet
I agree with your gear picks and reasoning. imo astro is also a better visual. You just have to wait a bit ( even for a single exposure), but you just see so. much. more.
especially on a budget
Yes I live in the us
I just feel like it’s hard to buy used and know if it works properly or not
Most people are pretty truthful
there's always a bunch of things you can use to check if things work correctly, and believe me, its worth saving the money. If i lived in an area where i could buy used equipment, i would.
Make a cloudy nights account and get it verified
Okay thank you
ice in space
This setup is with a camera not a telescope?
This is really good deal @next bone
Camera lens
yup, camera and a lens
If I wanted to get a telescope to attach to this mount is is possible?
Okay I will add that one to my cart
Not really
Pls buy used
New this will cost like $500 more
well, technically it is possiible, but you wont be able to hold that big of a telescope
Take your time and save lots of money
Only small telescopes
Like the RedCat51 and evoguide 50
Okay perfect I just made an account and will buy used
500 is a bit of a stretch i think. I got mine brand new for like 700ish AUD
which is `470 usd
So I could theoretically also get a smaller telescope to attach to this mount where I can do simple planetary viewing aswell
~470
Yeah I’m from Virginia so it shouldn’t be that hard to find deals
you can really only do planetary or deep sky
its basically impossible to do both since they require drastically different gear
you can do lunar and solar, but planetary required really big focal lengths (often also barlows) since theyre so small
For entire setup
You can’t put a big telescope on this tracker no
Ahhhh gotcha makes sense
So just a really good camera and this tracker will do the trick for deep sky
it seems like it only contains the pro pack with some upgrades (which could be useful given)
Which you recommended
doesnt even need to be really good, most modern cameras work
Could you send the link for this one
I mean it would cost $500 more if he bought his entire setup new stuffs
You can’t view it until your account gets verified by a human
Okay got it
I’ll send some links tho
the nikon d5300 is basically a great pick, if you're more on a budget side and dont want some of the fancier bells and whistles, and dont need computer control, the D3300 is the next best option (same sony sensor too)
just a rebody
almost
Okay makes sense
but id advise getting the 5300> the 3300 because i regret not having conputer viewing and control
there should definitely be programs for mac that do it
i dont see why there wouldnt

personally id rather buy the SNAP cable to connect the camera to the mount allowing you to control it through the app and wifi
If you don’t have two phones it becomes very tedious
I prefer to just use the intervalometer so I can check on my subs and restart the sequence without having to reconnect to Wi-Fi then this and that
two phones?
why would you need 2
ohhh
thats right
you can see subs via the nikon connect app right?
Wait what 2 phones
its not needed, more just quality opf life
of*
you just need a device that supports the SA console app
if you want to control it via wifi
Okay so this is all the camera setup links that I need to get and then the used Mount that you sent
And now I’d just have to get the software
What’s it called?
Don’t use it
Just use an intervalometer
Only useful thing there is the polar clock utility
personal opinion i guess
oh yeah, that
You will use dss to stack to start but after learning the basics switch to siril for stacking cause it’s better
ur gonna spend nire mioney whether you liek it or 0not
Huh?
You will get sucked into this and spend more money eventually
