Looking at getting my first deep sky rig and i will put out there that im a complete novice and this is my first rig ever.

Ive had a few inputs from users in dms which have been amazingly helpful but also wanted to ask would the following be a good fit? :

Sky-Watcher Explorer-150P DS
EQM-35 Pro Mount
BST StarGuider 2x Short Barlow Lens
ZWO ASI 585MC USB 3 Camera
ZWO ASiair Plus, ASI 120MM-Mini and Mini Guide Scope Bundle OR: ZWO ASiair Plus & ASI 120MM-Mini Bundle

I am also wondering if i have missed anything. I wantto be able to control it all via a laptop / ipad

Would love some feedback / changes and really appreciate your help 🙂

Why would you need a barlow

#

And do you have a dslr?

pulsar pier

hey thanks for reply - i do not have a dslr and i wasnt sure if barlow was needed. Would you keep the scope or change?

frosty trail

The scope isnt bad but a pds will do better since a dual speed focuser and it allows for more precise focusing

#

The fov with the camera and scope will be small so get a better guider setup too from 50 to 60 mm

#

Thats gonna be your fov

#

do you have any recommendations - is the camera etc ok or would u change?

#

thanks for your input

frosty trail
#

The camera is fine

#

The mount in the future if you wanna change your scope will struggle a heq 5 will do good

awesome ty 🙂 out of interest what do you think of the Sky-Watcher Evostar 80ED DS-Pro Outfit?

with a refractor you get a sharper but slower scope with the main advantage being of course the sharpness and not having to deal with collimation

#

Imo if you're going on the reflector side get a 130pds and not a 150

misty frost

yeah but you're stressing the mount more and may not get guiding as good as it needs to be

#

especially with a 585 it needs to be very accurate due to the fine pixel scale

frosty trail
#

Ah then i understand

misty frost
#

pixel scale with the 150 is 0.92"/pix and with the payload above half good luck guiding below that

you guys are legends on this server u have so much knowledge thank you so much ❤️

misty frost
#

0.8"/pix

pulsar pier
#

so 130 is like the sweet spot?

misty frost
#

it still has a very fine scale but at least it's a lighter setup

#

check on astronomy.tools the fov with that combo and see if it's ok for you, it won't have a very wide field due to the small sensor
