Hello everyone,
I've finally managed to get some good data on C/2022 E3 ZTF last night. I've stacked 2 images, one aligned on the stars and one on the comet. I used Starnet++ to remove any remnant of the comet by subtracting the starless image from the stack.
Now the last step is to combine the comet stack with the starfield, but I'm having trouble not having startrails visible when merging. How do you go about that? I put the comet layer as "Lighten".
Thanks for your help!

You have to run starnet on each individual frame beforehand and then stack based off of the comet alone
What I did was: staralignment -> cometalignment -> starnet on image container -> imageintegration
(In pix)
I thought about that, but I have 90 subs 😅 and I don't know if starnet has a batch option
well I could just do a script
Image container is what ylu want
I don't use pix tho :/ I used Siril
oh
but I guess I could run a batch file starnetting all my subs and then stack them
If that’s possible, then yes
well it's running, I'll check back in a couple hours 🙂
You should be able to make the trail remanent disappear by decreasing the sigma value
(when you stack, choose sigma clipping rejection and test different sigma values)
This worked for me
I've tried many different values for sigmas both low and high, on Siril and DSS, and never managed to get a good result..
Even after running Starnet on all 90 sub (which is reallly long btw), I still get star trails! Fainter but still present, it reminds me of walking noise, and just as much a headache to deal with...
So this is my final result, using starnet on all subs
this is a literal stack of starnetted images -_-
But I also like this picture, it really shows the movement, and it shows people that the tail is not caused by it 🙂
Even with really low sigma value like 0,5?
Yes, I even went to 0.1 and actual zero
this is 0.1 low and 0.1 high
Tried Sigma Clipping, median Sigma Clipping and winsored, nothing worked great..
That's really weird, it worked perfectly for me (and I'm untracked so it should be easier for you)
