#Orion, what can you make of this? I am not really great at processing.

I am wondering what you can do with it.

308x30sec subs m42: https://laumas.dynu.net/nextcloud/s/gJgnFGCinAA6AZf
130x0.5 second subs m42: https://laumas.dynu.net/nextcloud/s/zyxrrPw8LYXZpBR

I corpped the result due to the weird stuff at the edges, but I expect you guys to do waaaay better

working on it rn but I got to say it's some really good data. How long exp time did you get?

hallow cape
#

process so far, I couldn't remove the artifacts

43minutes integrated. Half of it got chucked due to clouds.

#

I can send a stacked 0,5 second also for the core

#

Will do that tomorrow

yeah sounds great, I've had a lot of clouds recently so I'm aiming at getting good at this processing stuff. Your data is better wayyy better than my orion that got and thats over 1h of data sooo, I got a small scope ๐Ÿ™‚

#

I use pixinsight (trial) and used this to get some of the reds and blues out

#

after that I used red and blue masks, and saturated them

My second try

@hallow cape
I had a small mistake in the previous stack regarding the darks. I had incorporated the 60second darks in it. Not a big difference but I updated the stack anyways.

nice I'll do it when I come home ๐Ÿ™‚

I am really curious to you version of the 0.5second subs one.
Test my scope shows an average of 7arcsec resolution for these compared to the 10arcsec of the 30sec subs.

Idk I have not seen these artifacts before, my guess is that your iso is a little too low thefore there is a big jump the detected nebula (it didn't get it all, as it's clipped out of the histogram, that's why it's gray... idk maybe there just isn't that much signal) and the background. But idk it's just a guess, but here's the process of the 5 second one:

this is the 30s one, maybe I when a little too hard on it... I haven't done noise reduction on any of these due to it takes a long time on my old laptop ๐Ÿ™‚

@round ingot here's the horsehead

#

gonna do a star reduction

#

and starless, I'm sending all in jpg rn

Fantastic

Regarding the iso, It is the asi294mc which is cmos and I believe that I should just use 120 gain for all exposure.
(See the chart). Right about 120 there is the sweet spot for HDR and read noise. But I could increase it a bit.

The exposure could eb just too short for my 108mm aperture, gain too low, exposure too short (it did become sharper, so for core that might be nice).

But regardless, I do think you have set a benchmark for me to try and beat for the foreseeable future.

Thank you for all you have done @hallow cape, much appreciated and clear skies to you!

My attempt at the 30 sec sub stack

#

Not sure why there is the dark band at the top - didnt show it in PixInsight lol

Funny, pixinsighy seems to be a different beast.

#

Thank you @viral elk for processing this.

Pixinsight is awesome when you get over the initial hump of learning how to use it ๐Ÿ™‚ I follow a very basic workflow but there is a ton of feature available with the option to add even more lol

with siril and gimp I managed to get this. I am very happy with this result

Nice, I like how smooth it is PepeHype
