Hey Guys! I found this used Skywatcher ED80 for a very good price and wanted to see if you guys had any opinions on it and also maybe experience with it? Any tips on what I really have to look out for when buying this? I'd primarily like to use it for astro photography.

It‘s a pretty good scope, it‘s very similar to the 72ed and thats one of the most popular AP refractors. It‘s equipped with a doublet-„lense“, so you‘‘ still get sole CA. But I‘d defenetly recommend it to you, especially for the price.

That's not the only thing to watch out for.
You get apo scopes that aren't great, still.
The 80ED however uses FPL53 glass, so despite being a doublet it performs well.

It’s quite a bit better than the 72ed, it uses FPL53 compared to the worse FPL51 (or equivalent) that the 72ed uses
It’s a doublet so you’ll always run into CA

Tbh it doesn't matter, I never recommend doublets.

Small doublets are still great value
Work with small mounts, have decent optical quality, and they’re small
72ed is a great low price telescope

Even though it's old, it kinda looks cooler than the newer version, cuz it has the copper finish. don't know if there's a difference in performance, but as it is a older refactor that most likely will be the case. Clear skies!

even 3k askars have CA, all refractive optics do. an FPL53 doublet for that price though is worth it, imo. assuming the pro series ED80 is the same as the modern 80ED.
nicer doublets are a good gateway into refractors, especially if in countries like the UK, it's hard to get cheap triplets like in the US
