#DSLR or Webcam?

webcam also means you can get raw frames, most DSLRs don't have raw video
Logitech c120
It's pretty old
records in 480p/30fps
so uh is it REALLY better than dslr?
Oh wait you meant camera not webcam
It's a Nikon D3100
so our contenders are: Nikon D3100 Camera, or Logitech C120 Webcam
The nikon d3100 has no manual video so I was thinking I could quickly take pictures with a remote shutter release
I have an empty SD card to do this on
Webcam I am able to use Sharpcap to record
Give them both a go and see what works for your but the webcams pixels are smaller which is like planetary cams
webcam definitely
Damn I didn't think a webcam is that much better than my dslr
the main thing is raw video frames that aren't compressed, which is what you really want for lucky imaging and stacking in AutoStakkert etc.
plus likely smaller pixels for more resolution
The webcam is only 480p
yes, but the sensor is much smaller so I bet that pixels are smaller than on the D3100. also, with video you can make 1800 images per minute, or about 9000 images in 5 minutes, with single exposures on the DSLR you can make maybe a few hundred
you then run the video into https://www.autostakkert.com
AutoStakkert! (AS!3, AS!2) is lucky imaging software used to automatically analyze, align, and stack images of the Sun, Moon and Planets that were taken through a telescope. Using a fast video camera, noisy and slightly distorted images are obtained, that can be combined into a single high quality image using this software. AutoStakkert! is free...
and keep the maybe best and sharpest 25% frames and stack those
