#Phone Astrophotography
1 messages Ā· Page 2 of 1
What phone did you use?
I hate how iphone denoises SO MUCH
They brag about attaching more cameras
But they canāt do crap against android phones in astrophotography sometimes
Samsung?
Yes
20Ć30
I was so excited to try the new iPhone 14 pro max on astrophotography but was so disappointed. And then I saw what the Google pixel camera can do
What bortle are you in?
9
Nah jk lol
Was at ššøš»š½šµš® 1
Lol I was soooo confused, thatās an awesome image. Take advantage of those skyās!!
Man i was there the worst time tho
I wanna go back so bad
Now that i have better equipment
Not much, but taken through thy phone, and a telescope
This one was phone purely
Of the moon
How far is it? I havenāt even found a spot like that near me.
I wen't to my summer house. It was located in an island where almost everything is bortle 1
CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK
but is cold
Now
Thatās pretty awesome! The cold is definitely a problem lol
reprocess of my mars from earlier since that one was frankly embarrassing
me personally i would record a video and the best frames using software
Thank you, as a very recent beginner for astromany, I will use this advice for further pictures! Also, if you do not mind me asking, what software would you recommend?
pipp and autostakkert
What filter do you use?
Daystar Quark
Tried this yesterday...
What happened
stacked two frames that some guy sent
Bruh
egg
Try focusing better next time
or record a video and pick out a frame
do you know how to stack
send me a video
ill stack it for you
do jupiter
what telecope do you have
whats the focal length
whats your lowest eyepiece
only 40x zoom?
get a 4mm eyepiece
100x
Get a 2x barlow
How do you stack?
sequator
My new best Jupiter, iPhone X through 8 inch dob
a lot of weird artifacts, took 2 hours of processing to squash them lol
looks nice
thanks
how did you stack it
pipp > autostakkert > registax > gimp
gotchu
i should really use winjupos, if i get any more clarity there will be very visible smearing from jupiter spinning
what magnification did you use to take that picture
1200mm telescope, 3x barlow, 9mm eyepiece. i dont remember the math for magnification off the top of my head
Astronomy.tools
bro
oh hell nah
399
Pushing it
?
nah our eyes just make it look way bigger
our eyes just better then
yep
i should get some of those color eyepiece things
filters?
yeah
those are fun but theyre expensive
them chinese people make shit reall cheap
svbony
god thats a big link
but yeah
you dont want color filters
sometimes theyre useful but its much better to go for something like ha, oiii, and sii
uhc is fine but its cheap
ive never used one but a lot of people say theyre ok
134mm 650mm telescope
when i get a cheap ass one ill tell you about it
great
My best photo of Jupiter, Mars, Saturn! Felling proud of myself!
could you convert them to png?
Sadly no i have no software for that
ok i can do it if you want
wait actually i cant right now because i have to go cook something
das good
red
iPhone 11 Orion. Sydney, Australia.
B7
iPhone7
Stacked and processed by 200
Untracked
@worldly idol btw ..
Hey I've got about 360 frames of the moon through my 8in scope and I've processed them and I don't see a difference between the original and processed
first is the original and the 2nd is the processed
Taken with only a pixel 4a and a tripod! It's amazing what the astro mode can do on the pixel. Note M31 at the upper middle right.
Iāve upgraded

If you need help just let me know, ill be here
( I own a 60d too )
What are you getting
a eq mounted telescope
650/134
This capable telescope will reveal impossibly cool celestial wonders every night out. Shop online - 100% satisfaction guaranteed!
no reviews
its new as hell though
Interesting. Iād be wary of small eq mounted newts, a lot of them are very cheap
yeah this one is probably cheaply made
the focuser is loose is what i heard about online
my ass was going crazy with a starblast and no focuser
If you want a better made telescope for a similar price I would go for the skywatcher heritage 130p or 150p
gotta get that eq mount though
For what? Itās still hand tracked so it wonāt be very helpful for astrophotography, and it isnāt much easier for visual
slow motion controls
I use a dob and the lack of slow motion controls isnāt a real problem. I donāt feel like they would be very useful unless youāre at like 2000+ mm
das cool
that telescope im getting too is for
brighter deep sky
The heritage 130p and 150p are both just as good, if not better, for deep sky
If you havenāt ordered it yet, I would highly recommend switching to one of those, but itās your money, not mine
oh your gonna love me
its coming sometime in decemeber
Ok, no real problem. Have fun!
Aaa no
yes
i think the apeture is good
and all the other telescopes are like
40x more expensive
The mount isnāt. And the scope is crap
bro
Get something worthwhile
is a starblast 4.5 worthwhile
You can get better scopes for cheaper
They are as good or better than that hunk of junk
the focal length of the one i had
was 450
The only thing that scope is good for is an onstep conversion and a much smaller scope mounted to it
it really limited the scope
i needed a barlow lens
I use 135mm lol
Oh for planetary
yeah
Get a 6ā dobsonian
i do that kinda shenanigans
Or even better a used 8ā
that telescope is coming in december š
ā¦
ive been looking for a long while too and i couldnt find any
You bought it without asking anyone?
no one really knows about it
i need an eq mounted telescope
or a dob with a higher focal length
That thing will not make you happy.
i love them
Return it and get a 6ā dob.
i love eq mounted telescope so much
How tf do you know?
You have never used that hunk of junk
i have
Why are you buying it again then
because'
im not trying to break my back with a lil dob
and the bigger dobs are more expensive
ā¦
Mate
That thing will be heaps harder to move than a large dob
Eq scopes are super bulky
And a little dob can be carried with one hand.
i didnt really say anything about moving a dob around
Hm
They are called tabletop for a reason
i think lugging a table out there would be a lil bit more bulkier than a eq mounted telescope
How
A table for a dob is tiny
I have owned a EQ scope similar to that one and it was a massive pain to move
i am gonna love it so much
Maybe take advice from people why know what they are talking about?
can you hold a telescope and ride a bike
you dont understand what trees do to a man
and 10% ride bikes
How tf does that logic work mateā¦
Because the mount is crap, it lacks aperture and itās got a crap focuser
well sometimes
Itās quite possible it wonāt even focus with a camera
you just dont have those batteries with a telescope
What
how do you know the mount is crap
Because I saw the pictures
thats nearly the same mount that the star blast uses
No it isnāt.
let me see
so are you saying that all eq mounts are terrible
or is it just the two telescopes
Just that telescope
Itās got a cheap mount
You want to be in eq5 territory for that scope, not eq2
its an eq3
or is it
Eq3-2 then
Thatās the mount Iād recommend for a dslr and under 135mm lens
And itās not even motorised
What
it has slow motion controls
Lmao āslow motionā
wait wait wait
Fast jumping you mean
do you think im doing astrophotography
No.
then why would i really need a motorized mount
Because you spent extra on it when that money could have gone towards the part that matters, the scopeā¦
You could have gotten a scope thatās 4x as good for the same price.
drop one
Used 8ā dob
Facebook marketplace
You carry it
oh hey
That scope you picked out is probably worse on a bike too
a ad just popped up for a bike
free
i dont know where you live
but
you got some rich people for them to be sellin a used 8" dob for 300
how much you pay for it
$500 AUD
thats alot
Itās like $50 more than the scope you wanted and is heaps better what
there some wacky telescopes on here
Oh my god this got heated
IT DID
I mean formerly lmc is absolutely right, I was trying to be gentle but that thing is complete garbage
I would rather look through a camera lens than try to use that mount
ā¦
127*
Stop looking for EQ scopes for planetary
but
Honestly I donāt know why they still make unmotorized eq mounts
they got lil knobs on em
So
It isnāt if you just asked
Except one pill is simply correct, and the other pill is a cheap eq mount
If you asked people would have said to get an 8ā dob
LMAO
To each their own I guess
Iāll enjoy my buttery smooth tracking and huge aperture
Itās your money, not ours which you burnt
ill enjoy my focuser that i probably wont use
What
You enjoy a slight breeze making it look like an earthquake, but at least you have little knobs
What
i love little knobs
How do you just not use a focuser
You will be out of focus?
ā¦
I thought we were too, please teach me how to just not use my focuser
the lil scope on the top
Oh thatās a finder scope not a focuser
yeah i dont
That makes slightly more sense
really use that sometimes
The finder is one of the most important things on a planetary rig.
guess im just built different then
Still odd, but better than not using the focuser
Or you use a 300mm scope
Built widefield
straight up bicyclist
and no i actually do not bike with a telescope
I give up. You have burnt your money.
At least it isnāt a powerseeker
Fair
just a lil bit more parabolic
It wouldnāt surprise me if itās a bird Jones
Nah itās parabolic and the focal length seemed right
even i wont touch those
Parabolic means nothing if the mount is so crap you canāt use it.
what if i could use the mount though
And that focuser is basically unusable
I had a better time just holding my powerseeker than using the mount, thatās how bad it was
What? For a dslr and lens? It needs a lot of work.
what if i just do visual
Itās still horrible
Luckily they just donāt use it
Visual on an EQ is absolutely horrible, even good mounts.
You wasted your money, return the scope while you still can.
Never have I been using my dob and wished I had slow motion controls
uh
And even if I wanted them, it would be comically easy to build my own mount and add them
i kinda do have experience
Thatās a bit unfair to assume
Show your best picture and rig
the starblast 4.5 eq that i got had an eq mount
You had a starblast
i got a picture of parabolic mirror shards in a dust pan
Well, in the previous convo he has tried to say stuff
And that made you WANT an eq mount?
Jesus Christ, youāre beyond help
Ah ok
Real
say what
You said about how good that scope is. If you had done research or asked anyone here with proper experience you would know itās a very bad scope
The act of looking at buying that scope proves lack of experience imho
i actually had no problems with using a eq mount
not even with the star blast
Have you used a dob before?
You are beyond help
i dont really have any money either
and no i havent
Dobs. Are. Cheaper. Than. EQ mounts.
there is like
And infinitely better quality and views
no dob on the market
that has the same price as this
in my range
im talking distance range
Wait for one then
Skywatcher Heritage 130p
You can find even better used
mine still has more aperture which roki was gettin on me abt
like 4mm
thats alot
Aperture only matters if you can keep it pointed at the target
You. Canāt. Use. The. Aperture. With. That. Godforsaken. Mount.
i thought you were saying the telescope was trash too
It is
Oh it is
But the mount cripples it
When did I say that that scope was good
That is highly illogical
atleast it isnt a bird jones
.
Thatās like if I was buying a car and I said if it has a v6, itās good nothing else matters
But at least it isnāt front wheel drive
see
my telescopes are required to have rwd
You are beyond help
I am making whatās called an analogy
Get experience before buying anything
i had experience though
Clearly
i had a old starblast with 450mm of focal legnth
and 114mm of apeture
the updated that thing to 500 now
I would recommend the starblast over that scope
thats illogical too to asume that i havent even touched a telescope before
The starblast is decent
So why tf are you downgrading your scope
because i couldnt use any eyepiece in my price range to its fullest potential
Wait
ā¦
Eyepieces were too expensive
yeah
So you bought a new telescope
Not if you take care of your telescope
So you broke your scope and now want to downgrade?
i was trying to clean it

Which is also not taking care of your telescope
Cleaning the mirror isnāt looking after your telescope
the ground took care of my telescope
Hm
If you had done any research you would know that you almost never clean your mirrors
that thang was dusty
So????
i aint use that thing in like a year
Were you using windex or dish soap?
no
microfiber cloth
and distilled water

With the dust cap off?
no
Ok thatās at least better than most people do
but it did have a fairbit of dust in it
Dust on the mirror doesnāt mean you have to clean the scope. Experience will tell you that.
i got sisters man
So do I, they donāt go around putting dust on my mirror
atleast they dont take your dust cap off
All of this doesnāt mean you have to clean your telescope
Wait⦠your sisters took your dust cap off? May I ask why?
i dont even know why
Did your dog eat your homework too?
most of my homework is online
Lmao
Anyway, sorry for your loss (of money), itās been fun chatting. I hope you enjoy that telescope as much as possible, (not much) good night
I would use colourful language here
i will have a wonderful chrismas night
there are some hot neighbours if its cloudy
I give up.
Jesus what are you 6
no
cant you tell ive been messing with you two the whole time
but i am actually gonna get the telescope
I am speechless. You.
you can buy like a clock drive for this thing
@frigid sparrow troll here
you was poor shamin me
No he literally wasnāt
i cant help i cant afford a dob
He suggested a cheaper, better option because you said you were on a lower budget
Yes you can, we suggested multiple
i really do not like change
i loved my eq mounted starblast
Ok Iām out
so do I really need to purge back an hour?
LMAO
i wanna read it
Yes.
Yeah probably, make this chat readable again
I realize that this entire chat was not only brain dead but also off topic š
Also wasting an hour of my time with a troll.
Ryan you could also help convince this guy to get a 130p instead of whatever the telescope heās getting is
But yeah he probably hasnāt even bought it
i bought it
Mhm
Whatever, canāt wait to see you back asking for recs in a month
that is fun, dyno does not work in threads....
whats a rec?
Recommendation
planetery filters
Welp, this is a piece of history now
i can delete my messages if you want
i love that
I hope nobody was interested in posts before this convo
guess I just need to ban all involved to clear the messages
#1020657687291252797 message
do not mention 134mm
this will make you extra speechless
have a good night
clear skies
you too
have a good night and clear skies
big dog out
@edgy talon what exactly do you want to do with that scope again?
Thanks caphe

Iāll ask prob around Xmas day cuz thatās when I get it(official date is 24e because my dads x,as day is the 25e)
Thanks
planets
Any tips to get better planet pics? Using an 8" dob and they look great with my eyes but not so much on my phone
Shorter exposure
tried that, just looks dimmer
I feel like the samsung camera app is what is really limiting it
is there a good app to use?
i use fotogear but idk if thats availible on samsung
ah
It works decently well, hereās my best Jupiter with it
looks awesome
I might try using a webcam, I feel like the physical size of my phone camera is the main issue, since it's quite small
webcams work wonders
yeah I tried it on my old 76/700 scope, saturn was just a dot at 35x magnification but the colors were much more natural
If you don't have a crappy phone it should be good
Cuz i got this with a 3.5 refractor
With my samsung
The next step is to take a video and stack it
Unfortunately the controls with video are extremely limited
Really as long as you can get it dark enough it will likely be better than photo
Yeah I can't really get it below a white ball
Is that still on the default camera app?
Yeah unfortunately I couldn't find fotogear
Pretty much any third party camera app will let you adjust exposure, I would just pick one at random and see if it works
Thx, will try
I have pro video aswell
hm
finally managed to get the great red spot, unfortunately the weather is awful right now and I can't get enough frames to stack them without horrible artifacts
Finally submitted my astro app to Apple after months of testingāended up naming it AstroShader. Will post here when it's ready for testing for any iOS users š§
What would people most want from an astrophotography app?
Planetary imaging, auto mountain/building extraction, handheld mode, etc. Trying to work out what to look into next...
(Also my old account was @tardy current for few people who I'd chatted to about progress up to now)
interesting
Jupiter
Telescope 150/750
Mount HEQ-5WIFI
Phone: redmi note 7
8769 photo
is that a color filter?
#80a?
Would love to see more!!!
Thanks I'll be sure to keep sending more as I take them
you bad ā¤ļøā¤ļø
This is as good as my phone images have gotten. Just got my ASI224MC, so I have to excuse myself from this forum.
Itās been fun imaging with my crappy iPhone X camera, Iāll see you all on the other side

no
The low res moon one is with my s22 ultra with no telescope, same with the earthglow one, but the other that aren't widefield (orion nebula only I think) is my scope too, the orion one was my first ever m42 image!

Oh I forgot one, carina region, single 20 sec exposure and overprocessed
First photo from my 12ā, just to test how it would look
Edited your first moon pic
Hey everyone, I'm looking for iPhone users to test my app, AstroShader.
Download here: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/astroshader/id6444631986
āAstroShader is an astrophotography app for capturing, stacking and editing. All you need is a stand, tripod, telescope or rock (to lean your phone on).
AstroShader functions differently to traditional astrophotography workflows by aligning and stacking live during the image capture process.
To takā¦
Please feel free to send through any feedback or feature requests (either DM or on here).
Also if anyone wants to join the beta program please DM and I can register you.
I canāt use it until tomorrow night, but it actually seems pretty good š
not great
really disappointing actually, since saturn looks absolutely incredible through the eyepiece
Phone ap for planets isn't great yeah
Phones arenāt that bad
With practice you should be able to get a little better than the eyepiece
That looks like a stacking problem
Some of the images arenāt quite aligned properly and that makes it look pretty blurry
seems like stacking such a low resolution image isn't worth it
this is a better result with just some editing
Looks better.
Do you mind if I try editing (in the app I posted above)?
go ahead š
Little bit of detail comes out with some stacked sharpening filters, but also the noise.
You could try stacking more images so you can bring out the detail without the noise
yeah
one question, does a phone mount significantly improve my image quality or does it just make it more comfortable to use?
Ahh the constelation Orion. Captured with 3200 iso and 15 second exposure, did some editing in lightroom. Phone is the Xiaomi redmi note 9 pro.
I guess it stabilises the phone against the eyepiece so will reduce some blur.
So will allow a longer exposure (or video for planetary)
so is it worth it or should I just wait and get a planetary camera?
You could #š¤-ask-a-nerd theyāll have some good advice.
I kind of like the challenge with a phone, but accept Iāll never get close to some of the amazing images posted on here
That depends. If you think itās going to be a few months until you can get a camera, go for the phone mount first. But if itās just going to be a few days or weeks rid better to just save
probably gonna be a while, I'll go for the mount
Congrats
Iāll check it out
you sure
No, but I didn't have that much fl so not the best
Those images at 53x magnification and then 6x with my phone
Great thank you!
Would appreciate any feedback on the results (and what settings you tried)
What camera did you use and what telescope?
More photos from 12ā, bortle 5 just to see how they would thrn out
Bottom is flame nebula
Middle is crab nebula
yeah I also need one
planets turned out surprisingly well without but DSOs are nearly impossible to capture without a mount
I have made diy phone mounts so i will use that now that i have a 25mm 1.25ā
Just made out of cardboard, work well
goofy looking moon. Been waiting for a clear day to use my new barlow lense. Finally happened
crabbie
Tried editing a bit
i took these pictures last week
Jupiter
jupiter and andromeda galaxy

Cool
phones are useful arent they
i was using autostackkert wrong for the past 4 months'
we still love yoiu
iphone 12 with no mount through 8 inch dob at sunset
š
how do I connect a 25mm eyepiece to a phone adapter if it had a big viewing angle???
Connect it
I did it
, I got Neptune

Hell yeah
I saw Uranus 2 nights ago
recent attempt to get a picture of Orion nebula with a I phone 7 plus
I did a 3 second exposure with a app I have
Use night mode
is there like a app you suggest? I just got this weird app that is called long Exposure
Idk ur phone might have the night mode.
It can still somewhat get the color. And there is no noise and trailingš
I don't think it has one
The quality is sht because i downloaded it from messenger but u get the idea
ooo ok
It's either 5 sec on nightmode or 14sec
Or 7
But if you want to stack ALWAYS USE RAW
yeah I jsut checked my phone does not have it
Best I can get is tiff
?
I'm looking for people to test out my iPhone app called AstroShader if you wanted to try a new one: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/astroshader/id6444631986
It's free
All the camera controls are manual and will save as a 16bit tiff
Astroshader kool
Does it actually save as raw 16 bit or is it a converted from jpg tif?
looks cool does it like use the camera for exposure or is it just like brightness like most other maps do
Ill try it out tonight
Has anyone tried Ha filter onto eyepiece and taking shots with the phone?
I'm wondering if it would be able to cut through the moonlight and show me the horsehead nebula or the orion nebula.
It saves as 16bit tiff. No jpegs here š
āāļø.
16bit tiff is the default save, there are also options to export as png (also 16bit) and HEIF if you want smaller file size.
(It's tiff as the app automatically aligns and stacks during capture.)
If you are in a dark sky area I would love to test š .
Example settings for a iPhone13/14 main camera wide-field shot are; 5s exposure time, ISO 200, 25-250 exposures (as long as you care to wait). Focus is manualāso worth setting before bumping the exposure time so it's less laggy.
Is it a full 25 sec exposure?
Yes ā
The app let's you manually adjust camera settings (exposure time, ISO, white balance, focus). Then aligns and stacks. Then also has some edits tools to help astro images.
I wanted to make a full end-to-end astro imaging app for iPhone... Not there yet but adding new things every week
downloading it now. I have B3 skies but tonight its bright with the moon.
looks a lot better than the other app i had before "imagecam"
lot nicer UI and better control.
So this has a slightly long answer...
iPhone cameras have an exposure time limit of 1s or 1/3s depending on model.
However, you can get round this by stacking RAW sensor data. However, a full 25s exposure on a recent iPhone camera will produce a white image, even in a dark setting due to the native ISO range, noise etc. š«
So the 25s exposure is a 25s average stacked (not-aligned) exposure of whatever the exposure range limit is. This represent a single "virtual exposure". These exposure count is the total number of virtual exposures are then aligned and stacked to produce the final image.
There's also some other stuff going on to digitally enhance the image as when you stack you can increase bit depth beyond what the sensor starts with š
Another user pointed out it would make sense for the exposure length to always = brighter image (e.g. not just better SNR) so I'll be releasing a new version this week that will work this way.
(This app is only possible due to the speed of recent GPUs on iPhones for all this processing)
Sorry for the long answer here
What can i say
Iphone
Haha yes exactly!
I thought this would take me a few months but has taken around 9, as I had to build an alternative image processing pipeline to get round the various issues
Well, good job. Seems like a good app
Still some way to go. All the feedback from astrophonetographers here will help
In the future, make an app for android
I tried screwing in an Anstronomik 6nm Ha filter onto my 25mm plossl and got this.
Single sub, ISO 800, 30 sec. (full moon night)
S22 Ultra on ST80 scope.
I have like another 85 of these subs but both Sequator and DSS threw it back at me saying not enough stars.
im going to a bortle 1 zone soon anyone got any tips
one question how does the stacking work on it
The stacking is automatic during the capture (to save storage as the tiffs are ~100Mb each).
You set the "Exposures" and the app will align and stack during capture
This is an example of an output image with the exposures set to 50āyou can see the alignment and stacking bottom and left
Cool
Orion (moon doing it's best to ruin the shot š)
AstroShader: 5s, x100, ISO 150
what iso?
ight cool
took this with my iphone 7 plus
Has been cloudy the past few nights so I havenāt been able to take the telescope out. But I was just out with my dog and noticed the most perfect ring with the moon inside, it was absolutely huge and using my iPhone 14 pro max: this was the best picture I could get. Has anyone seen this before?
The original is taken in RAW format so I converted it.
after stacking 100 photos (btw thanks to the dev of astroshader) I got a picture of jupiter with a Iphone 7 plus
Doing video will get the best results
Only one frame
if I do its just a blurry blob I do best with pictures most of the time
you got a phone mount?
how do i image with a phone to fix the moon over doing the iso
I could probably get a better picture if I had a gosh dang barlow lens, I hope I can get one after december cuz when I wnet to go get one from amazon it said it was gonna get to me by january 20th
what phone?
13 pro ma
it should if you tap the moon with the camera app a yellow box pops up it should go ahead and lower it but there is a sun icon on the right drag that down and it should lower the ISO
you using a telescope ?
nah just the phone
hmm
but you can image the moon with a phone?
i remember i tried a while ago with a telescope this is what i got
ehh in theory try astroshader its a app that will let you change the exposure and ISO
ok
I used it to get this
lower exposure
could also be ur focal length maybe
he was using it with his bare phone
oh
cameras on a phone are not the best sometimes with out a telescope
i dont use my telescope alot cuz it is pretty wobbly
is it a reflector or refractor
the only things it can image is jupiters moons and its orange stripes and it can image saturns rings
refractor
its aperture is 70mm
sounds like it has a cheap mount
I jsut deal with it and just go easy on one of the telescopes I have
but really sometimes you can't help with the wobble
ah yes the good old dobsonian
the one i have in mind is like a 16ā dobsonian
it would get nice surface detail of the moon
those things cost some $$$$$
True, however a strange number of people get them for free
yeah I have heard that idk how
wait how?
Probably some old guy who had one died and whoever was managing his will didnāt know what to do with it so they just make a free listing to get rid of it
You have to get pretty lucky to find one but it happens
what dont get one that big when you start ouy
weird
so hes just casually giving away a telescope which can get almost nasa quality planetary
To be fair theyāre a pain in the ass to sell
how do you know this is the question
may i ask where you can find these free listimgs?
ebay probably
Depends on where you live, for the US cloudy nights is the best
No eBay sucks for astro gear
well ill keep that in mind
Another good option is to join an astronomy club
well that didnt work
why are you going for a 16 this fast
they are decent
if you want a large scope as ur 2nd telescope just get a 12 flextube or something
Get an 8 inch dob first. Easy to use, and very easy to sell lager if you want
yes
they good?
yes
may i see a image of planetary?
the 8 in my experience gave good views of the moon
As an 8 inch dob owner, there are VERY good reasons not to go bigger than an 8 inch if you have never had an 8 inch
Any bigger than that wonāt fit in most cars, and is impossible to carry as one piece
wait can you send the link for the cloudy nights store
you need an account
ah
which is why you should get the flextubes like i got
Itās cloudynights.com or something, just google and you can find it
I mean the account is free, it isnt a big deal
yea
Cloudy nights is hands down the best place to get used gear in the us, was pretty surprised by the kinds of deals I could find there
if only i lived in the us lol
Nah US is terrible for buying gear
UK is wayyyy better
Thereās some surprising stuff on cloudy nights too, I saw someone selling their entire house
The only reason they could put it on there was because it came with the observatory on the roof
lol
yeah idk whats with the usa and just astronomy gear
I think I know exactly why
Itās because all of the telescope companies are based in the UK, so they have to pay export taxes to sell in other countries
So they have to add like 30%+ to the price to keep it profitable
sadge
Bad mars
I have the same type of telescope as you, a 70/900 refractor, these are some of my best shots using it (only with a phone camera)
Also saw one last week, it is quite impressive
That is awesome!!!! It really was impressive!! I tried to look into it and I guess its got something to do with weather, some people say it will rain and others say it will snow after seeing this.
It did rain here after that...
Oh wow so itās true!!! Thatās crazy
Well it didn't really rain that hard (it was like that neverending annoying tiny droplets)
And i also heard that there's a cyclone rollin near by....
So it could be even because of that
@thin marten did u see that moon ring on friday?
Yeah
At least I can tell it is mars
even i saw it then !
Cool
The weather is really wierd rn
I live under those "cloudy" area
same
I have a S22 Ultra but my pics of stars seem too unfocused and blurry. For pro mode I use manual focus of .8
Should I change that or should I not be using a phone ;_;
change it to . 95 - .98
it actually did not rain or snow where I am but it was extremely humid
Ignore the foreground and ugly gradient lol
Barely
Here's what I got
Thasts way better
Btw can you stack?
Thats really good
Yes
Could you help
Should I do digital zoom though
Thanks
I did use it yes
Iām not great but I could try
Thank you
I canāt really for pictures, itās really for planetary vids
Never mind then
Planets
Oh
But can you still help?
Use pipp,autostakkert and registax
alr
idk what to do
everytime I try processing everything goes wrong
i'm sick of having to ask people to help me stack
Did you watch youtube?
Yes
If u still are having problems upload ur data to #1021002743080558642
Some people might help u
I popped it in processing
idek where the file pipp popped out
upload it to share ur data
ok
It didnāt rain or snow here as well, where I live it rarely rains and never snows. But it had rained a few days before which is why it was cloudy. I guess that ring will remain a mystery!
Ring nebula
How I managed to find it is beyond me
I need to look away from it for it to actually show
And what scope?
8 inch dob
Yeah bortle 7
Quick question, is the dumbbell nebula a similar size/brightness?
Yes it is similar size, brightness I guess will depend on the scope but Iād say yes
Process shot and final image of Orion from a couple of nights ago
that's got a lot of potential of you can get a lot of raw exposures to stack
Just a single photo of the moon and mars conjunction edited with photo shop.
got covid and im quarantined so instead of taking photos i can repost this one... again
What phone?
Xiaomi Mi9T
evolution of images with my phone. It was an amazing experience seeing orion for the first time last year. I can now see it in new ways with my camera like never before. Its truly amazing
nice
im still waiting for the moon to go away before I take pictures of it
17 min of exposure
Orion Constellation With somewhat visible Nebula
This was 4mins of data, little bit more detail coming out. (Edited on iPhone too; AstroShader+Photos app. One for the purists š )
I think the level of light pollution is making it hard to get more detail out. Hopefully will be able to test from a darker area soon
Better than my first Orion shot with a dslr
Which iPhone?
iPhone13
I have access to an iPhoneX so will try some tests with AstroShader+telescope on that too. Just for comparison
This is the only picture I have of a galaxy outside the local group
Latest Orion using AstroShader iPhone 13āpushed the subs a bit higher which seemed to make the difference

Ladies and Gentlemen
Let us all agree that Phone Astrophotography is the best photography
Yes sir
Does anyone know if any of the iPhone star finder apps has an option to work rotated (ie when the phone is attached to the side/top of your scope) ?
The ones I use are StarSense by Celestron and SkyView lite
dawgs i finally captured the orion nebula and andromeda galaxy
Access Google Drive with a Google account (for personal use) or Google Workspace account (for business use).
lmk if you can access it

those two have it
don't know if it counts but here's moon through SW114*500 telescope shot on smartpone
Jupiter with s10+ and skywatcher heritage 150p
Original (with 4x zoom) and cropped

Hey Iām using AstroShader as well and not get as good pictures with it, do you have any suggestions or know tutorials on YouTube I can use?
Pleiades, Hyades, and Mars, next to some big creepy tree (oh and Orion on the top right) š
If anyone can process it better for me, it would be greatly appreciated! (I suck at processing)
Milkyway and Andromeda, about 3mins exposure
Really good for a phone!
Hey, there are some bits in the guide here: https://astroshader.notion.site/Guide-FAQ-c870cd0606d74a26bc2dd26e81112e16
Apologies I haven't got any other videos or tutorials yet. Will try and work on some...
One more general point for AP (rather than specific to AstroShader) is that the editing can make a lot of difference. The attached image is a before and after. The main changes I did were push the low light, set the black point and temp then added a small amount of sharpness at a radius of 2, 5 and 15
Can I ask if you used tracking if not how long did you do your exposures and how many did you do and what was the telescopes focal length?
It was using a skywatcher 130p (focal length 650), 40mm eyepiece connected to iPhone.
I'm using an AZ GTI tracking mount and managed to get 10s exposures (x100 for that image), I shoot off a balcony so can't align properly just "point and track" off 3 random stars I can see. Maybe could push this higher if I could align.
I'm also in a B9 with very bad local light pollution so expect almost anywhere else I'd get better detail in the more faint regions of the nebula
Howwww, Saturn is insane
...OK I've found a combo of bugs that was degrading image quality (especially on iPhones older than 12). It's been fixed and hopefully will be released in the next couple of days. Whatever the cause in the next release you'll see a noticeable improvement.
thats a nice moon
Thanks š
So I took this terrible picture of Andromeda galaxy with my poco c3
it actually has pretty good exposure time except for the wobbly stars and galaxy.
Yeah next time I'll do my best
AstroShader v1.0.2 is now available.
The major update is here should be a big jump in image quality and ability to bring out details in editing.
