potent hazel
edgy talon
#

650/134

#

no reviews

#

its new as hell though

potent hazel
#

Interesting. I’d be wary of small eq mounted newts, a lot of them are very cheap

edgy talon
#

yeah this one is probably cheaply made

#

the focuser is loose is what i heard about online

#

my ass was going crazy with a starblast and no focuser

potent hazel
#

If you want a better made telescope for a similar price I would go for the skywatcher heritage 130p or 150p

edgy talon
#

gotta get that eq mount though

potent hazel
#

For what? It’s still hand tracked so it won’t be very helpful for astrophotography, and it isn’t much easier for visual

potent hazel
# edgy talon slow motion controls

I use a dob and the lack of slow motion controls isn’t a real problem. I don’t feel like they would be very useful unless you’re at like 2000+ mm

edgy talon
#

that telescope im getting too is for

#

brighter deep sky

potent hazel
#

The heritage 130p and 150p are both just as good, if not better, for deep sky

#

If you haven’t ordered it yet, I would highly recommend switching to one of those, but it’s your money, not mine

edgy talon
#

its coming sometime in decemeber

potent hazel
#

Ok, no real problem. Have fun!

edgy talon
#

lol you too

#

clear skies

#

ill send you pictures if i can

edgy talon
bleak niche
#

Why

#

Get something actually good

edgy talon
#

i think the apeture is good

#

and all the other telescopes are like

#

40x more expensive

bleak niche
#

The mount isn’t. And the scope is crap

edgy talon
#

thats jus mean

#

it got that parabolic mirror though

bleak niche
#

No

#

And it has a crap focuser

#

Just don’t get it

edgy talon
#

bro

bleak niche
#

Get something worthwhile

edgy talon
#

is a starblast 4.5 worthwhile

bleak niche
#

You can get better scopes for cheaper

bleak niche
edgy talon
#

was 450

bleak niche
#

The only thing that scope is good for is an onstep conversion and a much smaller scope mounted to it

edgy talon
#

it really limited the scope

bleak niche
#

How

#

450 is a great focal length

edgy talon
#

i needed a barlow lens

bleak niche
#

I use 135mm lol

edgy talon
#

4mm yeiled around

#

112.5x

bleak niche
#

Oh for planetary

edgy talon
#

yeah

bleak niche
#

Get a 6ā€ dobsonian

edgy talon
#

i do that kinda shenanigans

bleak niche
#

Or even better a used 8ā€

edgy talon
bleak niche
#

…

edgy talon
#

ive been looking for a long while too and i couldnt find any

bleak niche
#

You bought it without asking anyone?

edgy talon
bleak niche
#

This server I mean

#

Did you ask for recommendations

edgy talon
#

or a dob with a higher focal length

bleak niche
edgy talon
bleak niche
#

Return it and get a 6ā€ dob.

edgy talon
#

i love eq mounted telescope so much

bleak niche
edgy talon
#

they bring me so much joy

#

because i had one

bleak niche
#

You have never used that hunk of junk

edgy talon
#

i have

bleak niche
#

Why are you buying it again then

edgy talon
#

because'

#

im not trying to break my back with a lil dob

#

and the bigger dobs are more expensive

bleak niche
#

…

#

Mate

#

That thing will be heaps harder to move than a large dob

#

Eq scopes are super bulky

#

And a little dob can be carried with one hand.

edgy talon
edgy talon
#

thats not moving a lil dob around

#

thats usin it

bleak niche
#

They are called tabletop for a reason

edgy talon
#

i think lugging a table out there would be a lil bit more bulkier than a eq mounted telescope

bleak niche
#

How

#

A table for a dob is tiny

#

I have owned a EQ scope similar to that one and it was a massive pain to move

edgy talon
#

bro

#

i could hold that telescope and ride a barbie bike

#

(thats true)

bleak niche
#

I give up

#

Your money

#

Which you wasted

edgy talon
#

i am gonna love it so much

bleak niche
#

Maybe take advice from people why know what they are talking about?

edgy talon
#

can you hold a telescope and ride a bike

bleak niche
#

No, because that’s very bad for it.

#

You ruin collimation and the mount

edgy talon
#

you dont understand what trees do to a man

bleak niche
#

Carry it…

#

There is a reason 90% of planetary imagers get dobs.

edgy talon
#

and 10% ride bikes

bleak niche
#

How tf does that logic work mate…

edgy talon
#

but

#

what are your points on why the telescope is crap

bleak niche
#

Because the mount is crap, it lacks aperture and it’s got a crap focuser

edgy talon
#

well sometimes

bleak niche
#

It’s quite possible it won’t even focus with a camera

edgy talon
#

you just dont have those batteries with a telescope

bleak niche
#

What

edgy talon
bleak niche
#

Because I saw the pictures

edgy talon
#

thats nearly the same mount that the star blast uses

bleak niche
#

No it isn’t.

edgy talon
#

let me see

#

so are you saying that all eq mounts are terrible

#

or is it just the two telescopes

bleak niche
#

Just that telescope

#

It’s got a cheap mount

#

You want to be in eq5 territory for that scope, not eq2

edgy talon
#

or is it

bleak niche
#

Eq3-2 then

#

That’s the mount I’d recommend for a dslr and under 135mm lens

#

And it’s not even motorised

edgy talon
#

and?

#

i dont mind if its motorised or not

bleak niche
#

What

edgy talon
#

it has slow motion controls

bleak niche
#

Lmao ā€œslow motionā€

edgy talon
#

wait wait wait

bleak niche
#

Fast jumping you mean

edgy talon
#

do you think im doing astrophotography

bleak niche
#

No.

edgy talon
#

then why would i really need a motorized mount

bleak niche
#

Because you spent extra on it when that money could have gone towards the part that matters, the scope…

#

You could have gotten a scope that’s 4x as good for the same price.

edgy talon
#

drop one

bleak niche
#

Used 8ā€ dob

edgy talon
#

where could i find this

#

used 8" dob

bleak niche
#

Facebook marketplace

edgy talon
#

is this

#

8" dob bike useable

bleak niche
#

You carry it

edgy talon
#

oh hey

bleak niche
#

That scope you picked out is probably worse on a bike too

edgy talon
#

a ad just popped up for a bike

#

free

#

i dont know where you live

#

but

#

you got some rich people for them to be sellin a used 8" dob for 300

bleak niche
#

That’s what I paid

#

And I’ve seen 10ā€ go for cheaper than what I paid

edgy talon
#

how much you pay for it

bleak niche
#

$500 AUD

edgy talon
#

thats alot

bleak niche
#

It’s like $50 more than the scope you wanted and is heaps better what

edgy talon
#

there some wacky telescopes on here

potent hazel
#

Oh my god this got heated

edgy talon
#

IT DID

bleak niche
#

Real

#

Just trying to get money to go towards a better deal

potent hazel
#

I mean formerly lmc is absolutely right, I was trying to be gentle but that thing is complete garbage

#

I would rather look through a camera lens than try to use that mount

edgy talon
#

i found another one

#

its called

#

celestron powerseeker 130eq

bleak niche
#

…

potent hazel
#

127*

bleak niche
#

Stop looking for EQ scopes for planetary

edgy talon
bleak niche
#

Spend on what matters, aperture

#

Dob is the cheapest aperture around

potent hazel
#

Honestly I don’t know why they still make unmotorized eq mounts

edgy talon
#

they got lil knobs on em

bleak niche
#

So

edgy talon
#

this some

#

pick the red pill pick the blue pill stuff

bleak niche
#

It isn’t if you just asked

potent hazel
#

Except one pill is simply correct, and the other pill is a cheap eq mount

bleak niche
#

If you asked people would have said to get an 8ā€ dob

edgy talon
#

i like the cheap eq mount

#

im used to that

bleak niche
#

LMAO

potent hazel
#

To each their own I guess

#

I’ll enjoy my buttery smooth tracking and huge aperture

bleak niche
#

It’s your money, not ours which you burnt

edgy talon
#

ill enjoy my focuser that i probably wont use

bleak niche
#

What

potent hazel
#

You enjoy a slight breeze making it look like an earthquake, but at least you have little knobs

#

What

potent hazel
#

How do you just not use a focuser

edgy talon
#

bro>

#

i thought you guys were actually good at this stuff

potent hazel
#

You will be out of focus?

bleak niche
#

What

#

Mate I do heaps of planetary

edgy talon
#

OH

#

the pointer things

bleak niche
#

…

potent hazel
#

I thought we were too, please teach me how to just not use my focuser

edgy talon
#

the lil scope on the top

potent hazel
#

Oh that’s a finder scope not a focuser

edgy talon
#

yeah i dont

potent hazel
#

That makes slightly more sense

edgy talon
#

really use that sometimes

bleak niche
#

The finder is one of the most important things on a planetary rig.

edgy talon
#

guess im just built different then

potent hazel
#

Still odd, but better than not using the focuser

potent hazel
bleak niche
edgy talon
#

and no i actually do not bike with a telescope

bleak niche
#

I give up. You have burnt your money.

potent hazel
bleak niche
#

It basically is actually

#

Just rebranded

potent hazel
#

Fair

edgy talon
bleak niche
#

It wouldn’t surprise me if it’s a bird Jones

potent hazel
edgy talon
bleak niche
edgy talon
bleak niche
#

And that focuser is basically unusable

potent hazel
#

I had a better time just holding my powerseeker than using the mount, that’s how bad it was kekw

bleak niche
edgy talon
bleak niche
#

It’s still horrible

potent hazel
bleak niche
#

Visual on an EQ is absolutely horrible, even good mounts.

#

You wasted your money, return the scope while you still can.

potent hazel
#

Never have I been using my dob and wished I had slow motion controls

edgy talon
#

bro

#

this really got heated

bleak niche
#

Because we are trying to help you

#

And you are faking experience to prove us wrong

edgy talon
#

uh

potent hazel
#

And even if I wanted them, it would be comically easy to build my own mount and add them

edgy talon
#

i kinda do have experience

potent hazel
bleak niche
#

Show your best picture and rig

edgy talon
#

the starblast 4.5 eq that i got had an eq mount

potent hazel
#

You had a starblast

edgy talon
bleak niche
potent hazel
#

And that made you WANT an eq mount?

edgy talon
#

me personally

#

i hate change

potent hazel
bleak niche
bleak niche
#

You said about how good that scope is. If you had done research or asked anyone here with proper experience you would know it’s a very bad scope

#

The act of looking at buying that scope proves lack of experience imho

edgy talon
#

not even with the star blast

potent hazel
#

Have you used a dob before?

bleak niche
#

You are beyond help

edgy talon
#

and no i havent

bleak niche
#

Well there is your problem

#

Never seen the light

potent hazel
edgy talon
bleak niche
#

And infinitely better quality and views

edgy talon
#

no dob on the market

#

that has the same price as this

#

in my range

#

im talking distance range

bleak niche
#

Wait for one then

potent hazel
#

You can find even better used

edgy talon
#

like 4mm

#

thats alot

potent hazel
bleak niche
#

You. Can’t. Use. The. Aperture. With. That. Godforsaken. Mount.

edgy talon
#

i thought you were saying the telescope was trash too

bleak niche
#

It is

potent hazel
#

Oh it is

bleak niche
#

But the mount cripples it

edgy talon
#

if it has a parabolic mirror

#

im fine with it

bleak niche
#

When did I say that that scope was good

potent hazel
edgy talon
bleak niche
#

.

potent hazel
#

That’s like if I was buying a car and I said if it has a v6, it’s good nothing else matters

potent hazel
edgy talon
#

my telescopes are required to have rwd

bleak niche
#

You are beyond help

potent hazel
#

I am making what’s called an analogy

bleak niche
#

Get experience before buying anything

edgy talon
bleak niche
#

Clearly AwkwardSmile

edgy talon
#

i had a old starblast with 450mm of focal legnth

#

and 114mm of apeture

#

the updated that thing to 500 now

bleak niche
#

I would recommend the starblast over that scope

edgy talon
bleak niche
#

The starblast is decent

edgy talon
#

i needed a barlow lens for it

bleak niche
#

So why tf are you downgrading your scope

edgy talon
#

because i couldnt use any eyepiece in my price range to its fullest potential

potent hazel
#

Wait

bleak niche
#

…

potent hazel
#

Eyepieces were too expensive

edgy talon
#

yeah

potent hazel
#

So you bought a new telescope

edgy talon
#

no

#

so you know how mirrors break right

potent hazel
#

Not if you take care of your telescope

bleak niche
#

So you broke your scope and now want to downgrade?

edgy talon
bleak niche
potent hazel
bleak niche
#

Cleaning the mirror isn’t looking after your telescope

edgy talon
bleak niche
potent hazel
#

If you had done any research you would know that you almost never clean your mirrors

bleak niche
#

So????

edgy talon
#

i aint use that thing in like a year

potent hazel
#

Were you using windex or dish soap?

edgy talon
#

microfiber cloth

#

and distilled water

bleak niche
potent hazel
edgy talon
potent hazel
edgy talon
#

but it did have a fairbit of dust in it

potent hazel
#

It doesn’t just appear

bleak niche
#

Dust on the mirror doesn’t mean you have to clean the scope. Experience will tell you that.

edgy talon
potent hazel
edgy talon
bleak niche
#

All of this doesn’t mean you have to clean your telescope

potent hazel
edgy talon
potent hazel
#

Did your dog eat your homework too?

edgy talon
bleak niche

edgy talon
#

i come to the conclusion

#

im getting the telescope

potent hazel

ā€ŽAstroShader is an astrophotography app for capturing, stacking and editing. All you need is a stand, tripod, telescope or rock (to lean your phone on).

AstroShader functions differently to traditional astrophotography workflows by aligning and stacking live during the image capture process.

(It's tiff as the app automatically aligns and stacks during capture.)

If you are in a dark sky area I would love to test šŸ™ .

Example settings for a iPhone13/14 main camera wide-field shot are; 5s exposure time, ISO 200, 25-250 exposures (as long as you care to wait). Focus is manual—so worth setting before bumping the exposure time so it's less laggy.

elder birch
# unborn loom Is it a full 25 sec exposure?

So this has a slightly long answer...
iPhone cameras have an exposure time limit of 1s or 1/3s depending on model.
However, you can get round this by stacking RAW sensor data. However, a full 25s exposure on a recent iPhone camera will produce a white image, even in a dark setting due to the native ISO range, noise etc. 😫

So the 25s exposure is a 25s average stacked (not-aligned) exposure of whatever the exposure range limit is. This represent a single "virtual exposure". These exposure count is the total number of virtual exposures are then aligned and stacked to produce the final image.

There's also some other stuff going on to digitally enhance the image as when you stack you can increase bit depth beyond what the sensor starts with šŸ™ƒ

Another user pointed out it would make sense for the exposure length to always = brighter image (e.g. not just better SNR) so I'll be releasing a new version this week that will work this way.

#

(This app is only possible due to the speed of recent GPUs on iPhones for all this processing)

#

Sorry for the long answer here

elder birch
# unborn loom Iphone

Haha yes exactly!
I thought this would take me a few months but has taken around 9, as I had to build an alternative image processing pipeline to get round the various issues

It’s because all of the telescope companies are based in the UK, so they have to pay export taxes to sell in other countries

Apologies I haven't got any other videos or tutorials yet. Will try and work on some...

One more general point for AP (rather than specific to AstroShader) is that the editing can make a lot of difference. The attached image is a before and after. The main changes I did were push the low light, set the black point and temp then added a small amount of sharpness at a radius of 2, 5 and 15

# limpid skiff Can I ask if you used tracking if not how long did you do your exposures and how...

It was using a skywatcher 130p (focal length 650), 40mm eyepiece connected to iPhone.
I'm using an AZ GTI tracking mount and managed to get 10s exposures (x100 for that image), I shoot off a balcony so can't align properly just "point and track" off 3 random stars I can see. Maybe could push this higher if I could align.
I'm also in a B9 with very bad local light pollution so expect almost anywhere else I'd get better detail in the more faint regions of the nebula
