Does anyone know how the investment banks works in major cities? Are they worth it? I'm not really a new player but recently I've noticed them and have been wondering if I am missing out on something

You can safely ignore those unfortunately. You need to have rank 1 most furnished house in the town to use that, and that is very unlikly to happen.
Also very forgotten and dead content.

it's neither secret nor endgame, it's a straight up waste of time, even if a person had rank 1 residence they wouldn't bother setting it up

I've heard people theorizing if you get rank 1s in all towns it might be worth something, but good luck with that 😂

What is Bank investment node:
Node that will use G-gold bars as gamble silver for more or less (range is about -10% to +20% per cycle). Worker will take G-gold bars from storage and turns it into silver and gives back X amount. From old tests the results was pretty good in long run. It has best worker income of all nodes in silver/hr value.
How to unlock the node:
Player has to own 1 residence in that city/town that holds Rank 1 in housing points. In past this was pretty easy to obtain, but in these days you will be forced to use Pearls to get high value furniture, floors, walls, etc to get the INSANE point counts that min-maxers has pushed Rank 1 housing.
Special Nodes
Special nodes are found in some towns/cities/housing areas. This is also locked behind Rank 1 house owners. With the node your workers can craft trade crates without any payments. More you craft and further you take them, more money you will earn
Is it worth?
100% NO, it is not worth the effort nor pearl cost
For example of the insanity of housing in these days:
House 2-1 in Arehaza Town (yes very faraway house of world map)
Rank 1 = 76128 points
Rank 2 = 9847 points
Picture under the difference in view of "residence"
Rank 1 houses are made to min-max point counts, they are packed to very maximum and will not hold any functions
