#Where to ED? CMC vs. BC

Hi, me again- I've posted before but here I am again after quite bit more research and consideration

Schools: Claremont McKenna College vs. Boston College
Intended major: Economics or Finance, minor in a language or other humanities
Similarities: Small school, liberal arts focused, no greek life, both meets 100% demonstrated financial aid, both pretty campus just in different vibes (east coast vs west coast)

CMC Pros:

  • Weather!!
  • Closer to home (I'm from WA)
  • I like the vibe where close-knit communities are encouraged. I like the vibes in general, feels like a friendly inclusive community
  • Very small school, good food I hear

CMC Cons:

  • Might be harder to find a solid Christian community

Boston College Pros:

  • I LOVE their Jesuit "education of the whole person" approach
  • Religious aspects of school/education, very attractive as a religious person myself, emphasis on service
  • I like their vibe, also seems friendly/close knit, not as much as CMC tho ig
  • Boston as a city is just really nice, out of my comfort zone

BC Cons:

  • Weather... lol
  • Far from home

Tiebreaking considerations:
Honestly I'm just looking for "vibes."
If anyone has gone/went/is going/visited these schools before I'd love to hear what you think about the vibes of the schools. Not too concerned with aid/career opportunities/quality of education/research etc. Just want to find the college with a vibe that is the best fit for me, so I can ED there.

OH ALSO
My stats right now determine that CMC is def a reach, prolly won't get in without ED (even with ED), but BC I think I can get in without ED, but no guarantees
If I do ED in CMC I just don't want to regret it you know
I do like both schools very much, I hope to visit both but I don't think I'll be able to visit BC because of money

not sure if u know already but they both have ED1 and ED2

but BC is probably moving into reach range for RD

#

pretty sure the acceptance rate for RD this year was single digits

#

but BC really likes ED applicants and takes around 50% of their class from ED

#

im going there this fall and the online info sessions were pretty useful in building a picture of what the vibes are

also u should consider loyola marymount and santa clara if u havent already

#

they are both jesuit and west coast

#

and mid-size like BC

Would it work if i applied ed 1 in one school, and if i didnt get in apply ed 2 in the other school? Lol

yep, just do more research on which of them is ur favorite and apply ED1 to that

i dont know much about CMC but BC has a ton of service learning programs and mentorship programs if ur interested in that kind of stuff

I didnt list bc i was afraid itd get banned as a "chance me," but:

basically 3 aps so far, 4 planned for senior yr, 1450 sat (going to retake), 3.98 gpa UW, ranking top 4%

And nothing groundbreaking for EC, ig most noteworthy thing is ive been in leadership position in our local branch of a missions org for several yrs

yea that’s pretty solid for ed!! im also a christian but i know that it’s going to be hard to find a school that is really christian

i think instead what you should do is look at the surrounding areas of the schools to see if they have good christian communities. i have personally lived in LA, (orange county) and there is definitely a strong christian presence you just have to look for it a bit.

I’ve never been to Boston so I can’t say but the LA area is much, much larger than the Boston area so I think by even just that you would have a better time because you would have more christian friends. I would try to keep school as school and then look for Christians on the side

CMC you'll get that tight-night, strong network, much smaller school. BC is still pretty good though. Edge at CMC, but BC isn't much below. We don't know your stats, but I'm assuming CMC is more difficult to get in? If it is an extreme reach, BC is a no-brainer. Otherwise, I'd def checkout CMC and feel it out.

Based on your last point, I think you need to visit CMC for sure. You'll know for sure then. If you're unsure after that, you can speak to some current students too.@mystic mural

BC is probably the choice tbh if you wanna stay east coast.

yeahh,, i might just go RD both LOL and see what happens. its fine if i get rejected from both honestly, im fine with my state school too 🤷‍♀️

since UW has a good business school also

im assuming UW would be a target since you're in state

also, remember, ED = possibly more expensive

since schools are less inclined to give scholarship

so keep that in mind
