#UC Berkeley vs Cal Poly SLO vs UCSD (for CS)

I had gotten off the UCSD & UC Berkeley waitlist.

Initially, I have committed to Cal Poly SLO for Computer Science. Since my EFC is 0, I basically have to pay minimal amount of money. Cost would not be an issue here for any of the following schools here.

For UCSD, I'm fully undeclared. For UC Berkeley, I'm undeclared L&S. Should I stick with Cal Poly SLO for guaranteed CS or should I try to get CS at UC Berkeley or UCSD?

I've heard issues of not being able to take CS classes due to being extremely impacted - which can affect my graduation date. Does anyone have experience with changing their majors from undeclared to CS (from either Berkeley or UCSD).

I'm probably leaning more towards UCSD (because of location) if it is possible to declare CS.

CPSLO CS is very impacted, which can cause late graduation

#

Berkeley is also impacted, but not to the same degree. But getting the major requires a 3.3 in a few courses so if you miss the cutoff, you won't get CS

#

Also remember to look at the curriculum for both schools and whether you like them

go to UCB

#

from what ive heard from friends there, it isnt hard to switch to cs within L and S

#

its also a lot stronger academically than cal poly

I would go to Berkeley and try to get into CS. If it doesn't work out, then math + lots of Leetcode. Just make sure you take advantage of Berkeley's research, internship, and networking opportunities because that's what makes Berkeley a better option than CPSLO

ucsd undeclared is 💀

you may take 5 or even up to 5.5 years to graduate there due to the major having lots of requirements and courses being hard to get

I’ll disagree w most ppl here and say SLO>Berkeley. Slo has a great reputation in the tech industry for preparing grads w the learn by doing curriculum. I have family who work in faang and speak very highly of slo grads. Some other pros are smaller classes, , imo a less stressful environment, and you’ve already declared cs (no need to worry about getting classes since u get blocked into them for 1st yr). Assuming u plan on getting a job straight out of undergrad, slo prepares well for this. But if u plan on going to grad school, choose Berkeley.

Berkeley's program is just as good if not better than slo
