UPenn vs. Rochester Early Medical Scholars BSMD?

Intended major: Neuroscience (Pre-Med)

UPenn: 70-75K a year
Rochester: 50-55K a year

UPenn (in state)
School 1 Pros:

• Top 3 business school
• Ivy-League (clout)
• Top 10 Pre Med, has Perelman School of Medicine connections
• Outstanding alumni network

School 1 Cons:

• Philadelphia is a very art/history-centric city, not geared towards my interests
• Next to Drexel BSMD
• Significantly more expensive than REMS
• Will not be receiving a positive reply from my friends after committing
• Not guaranteed med school

REMS
School 2 Pros:

• Guaranteed T-40 Med school after undergraduate
• Open curriculum (similar to Brown University PLME- my initial dream school)
• MCAT waived, will save 1.5-2 years of studying
• Can withdraw from BSMD if wanted, can apply to other medical schools

School 2 Cons:

• Colder, don’t like the snow
• Not Ivy-league, no clout
• DIII sports, less school spirit
• Will not experience MCAT standardized testing experience, unprepared for Step 1

Tiebreaking considerations:
Would like to know whether prestige matters in medicine, also how much will Wharton connections benefit me in the future, also will I enjoy my experience at BSMD versus Penn undergrad

You might be in a good spot to bargain given your very good choices

I would personally go with REMS if they give you an affordable package for all 8 years to save yourself the stress of med school apps

@tiny spear Personally, I think both of these schools are not worth your time. You should consider more prestigious schools such as DNU or UCMD. One of the major cons of UPenn that you did not consider is that Philly is Gobind’s playground. Additionally DNU has more prestige and has more Dee. It’s also E10

i like where ur coming from. I don’t know who this “Gobind” individual is- should he be avoided if I go to Penn? Also, I’m not sure if DNU and UCMD will be the best for my career path. Sorry! Thanks for the help though!

I got into the science school. But I could take Wharton classes, as business is also a potential side career or hobby of mine so that’s appealing to me!

if u wanna do traditional business like finance most firms hire ppl from penn with wharton degrees

Being next to Drexel BSMD is huge minus go REMS

Also jus like theres a good chance you could get in a lower tier med school or not even an MD program at all if you go to Penn so REMS is just OP
