Intended major: Computer Science
Similarities: Both are located in tech friendly cities, COA's are similar (GSU is slightly cheaper but the minimum wage of Cali makes up for OCC in the long run)
Important Note: I am an International Student
Georgia State University
Pros:
- Atlanta.
- Good CS Community on Campus.
- Frequent Hackathons
- Cheap Rent
Cons:
- Safety: Students proclaim that they get at least one email every semester regarding a shooting outside or near campus
- Dorms: The Dorms are not the best and are rated pretty bad among the students
Orange Coast College
Pros:
- California.
- Transfer agreements with a lot of universities
- Just gives a better vibe as compared to GSU
- Might end up transferring to a great private university with a lot of aid (to satisfy ego/academic validation/minimizes cost in the long run)
Cons:
- California's cost of living.
- Insecure about the future as there is a chance that I might not transfer well
P.s. An acquaintance might accompany me to OCC but i am doubtful as i feel like the person will most likely drag me down instead of being much of a help.
Tiebreaking considerations:
- I have had mixed responses while learning about scholarships/aid for international transfer students. Although i have seen some students getting full aid. (But i guess if i really want to transfer, I can do that from GSU as well)
- Internship and city life: Since Atlanta is a tech city, the internship opportunities are numerous there. Similarly, OCC lies in California too and California is California but i haven't researched much about internships around OCC.
