Schools: UCSB vs NEU
Intended major: UCSB: Biology | NEU: Bioengineering
Similarities: the cost of attendance would be the same or roughly, (NEU is OOS but gave me a huge grant so i’m taking into consideration traveling costs when i go back home)

UCSB Pros

  • good environment and good weather,
  • more familiar with the area ( native californian )
    -bike friendly campus
    -right next to the beach!
    -pretty small campus
    -not super competitive ( i hear ) in terms of work, students r helpful when it comes to work and projects etc.

UCSB Cons:

  • more suburban area ( which isn’t necessarily bad, i just prefer the city )
  • super small dorms
  • bigger class sizes
  • not a lot of school spirit / lack of sports involvement

NEU Pros

  • smaller class sizes ( i believe )
  • right in the city ! which i prefer
  • co-ops / good work experience
  • i like the look of the campus
  • opportunity to work / gain experience in good companies ( my goal would be to find a co-op in cali )

NEU Cons:

  • weather is horrendous
  • lack of mental health services ( i hear )
  • far away from home
