Schools: USFCA vs RIT
Intended major: Computer Science (Might dual major in Electrical Engineering)
Similarities: They’re pretty much giving the same amount of tuition, so the cost to attend is almost identical

USFCA
USFCA Pros:

  • Bay Area location, good for tech jobs and the city is so lively
  • Has super friendly people
  • Small school and has smaller class sizes
  • Diverse student population (Black girl, lol)
  • Fell in love with the campus on tour
  • Has public transportation
  • Great architecture
  • Could get SF internships during college

USFCA Cons:

  • Less focus on technology in the school
  • Barely any other tech majors to check out / Not much room to explore
  • Housing isn’t guaranteed for all four years
  • Expensive city to live in
  • Engineering side just established and no one’s actually graduated yet (comp sci’s older and fine though)

RIT
RIT Pros:

  • Tech-oriented school
  • Curriculum has loads of choices for fun tech classes
  • Great computer and engineering facilities
  • Lots of clubs to choose from
  • Guaranteed housing all four years
  • RIT’s Global Village has loads of little stores, might not need to leave campus

RIT Cons:

  • Location is iffy and not actually in the city
  • Zero to no public transportation, need to drive off campus
  • Cold weather for most of the year
  • Campus is not exactly diverse (comp sci ratio 💀)
  • Co-op requirements tends to make graduation time five years instead of four (mandatory, might end up needing to pay more tuition)
  • Not much to do outside the campus

Tiebreaking considerations:
Education, Social Life, Connections + Job Placements

Addendum: Hoping to work on the West Coast when I graduate. Big fan of sunshine, but also a big fan of being adequately prepared for working in tech lol
