Schools: cal state northridge vs glendale community college
Intended major: nursing or public health, health admin
Similarities: Nothing similar.

Name of School 1: Cal State Northridge
School 1 Pros:

  • only 30 minutes from me
  • great resources such as a stress relieving building, activity center, fin aid, gym, career guidance, etc
  • only 6k tuition from my scholarships + grants
  • bit of a commuter school but still has social scene and fun events like movie night, concerts, clubs.
  • has my possible major which is public health
  • 1 friend is going there
  • get to be more independent
  • nice architecture
    School 1 Cons:
  • commuter school kind of
  • 39k student population
  • large class sizes
  • no job guarantee
  • might be 5k in debt after
  • surrounding area is a bit dull.
Name of School 2: Glendale community college
School 2 Pros: - extremely affordable
  • small-med class size
  • can explore what i want
  • guaranteed transfer to university
  • campus is nice, looks like an actual university
  • have 1 friend going there
  • good resources
School 2 Cons: - little to no social life. i crave social interaction.
  • have to rely on busses/uber to commute since no car
  • nursing program extremely competitive and hard.
  • if i do nursing, theres a likely chance ill have to retake a course due to difficulty with stem subjects.
  • no housing and meal plan
Tiebreaking considerations: i would love to hear about people's experience with nursing at CC or just CC in general and if anyone is majoring in public health or health admin. personally, my dad is expecting me to be a nurse even though i struggled a lot with math and hard science classes. its worth noting too that i have a learning disability which was a huge factor in me struggling with stem subjects. science is still interesting to me though which is why i'll likely major in public health or health admin at CSUN. any input is appreciated ty!

nursing program extremely competitive and hard
higher education is typically hard. there's a lot that can help ease this. i suggest looking into academic success programs, like mentorship or tutoring, at both schools.

no job guarantee
you go to college for education. college ≠ job guarantee

science is still interesting to me
if you want to do it, do it! you just need to put in the effort.

i think both could be great options but the school with more support resources will fit you better. look into how either could support academic performance and foster your academic/professional success.
