I’m stuck between UC Davis vs UCSD (Muir college) for mechanical engineering. I got 20k regents at UCSD but otherwise no financial aid from either. Parents will be paying for expenses so money isn’t that much of an issue.
UC Davis pros: driving distance from home, I like the college town vibe better, offers classes in Hindi which I really want to learn, I’ve heard the atmosphere is less cutthroat and students are more willing to help each other, cheaper cost of living (idk by how much though), has a football team I can root for, better public transportation (I’ve heard)
UC Davis cons: No regents privileges, I can’t ride a bike, not as nice weather, when I went to the admitted students day they didn’t bother putting up a college of engineering tent
UCSD pros: Higher ranked engineering and more prestige, near the beach, regents, slightly nicer looking campus imo
UCSD cons: Can only visit family on holidays, city will be a big adjustment, I’ve heard it’s harder to find a social life, no Hindi classes
Honestly the biggest factor making this a debate is if regents is that much of a big deal. If neither gave me regents, I would go to Davis. Also I’m confused about which location is better for internships.
