Schools: University at Buffalo and SUNY Brockport
Intended major: Nursing
Similarities: public New York schools, weather, suburban
University at Buffalo (UB)
Pros:
- Price: 14k/year (in-state)
- Good reputation & well-known nursing program
- University Center/located in a city = more opportunities to shadow, intern, study abroad, and work
Cons:
- Nursing intent major, not direct entry - I have to apply to the nursing program in sophomore year (stressful -- only 1/3 of the intended majors get in. If I don't get into the program, I'll have to change majors or leave)
SUNY Brockport
Pros:
- Price: about the same as UB
- Direct entry major -- I automatically get into the nursing program (less stressful, sense of security)
- Clinicals at a teaching hospital
Cons:
- Party school
- Nursing program is not well known
- Not a university center/no research opportunities
I'm leaning towards UB but terrified that I won't get into the nursing program. I'm anxious about my future which is why I kept Brockport on my list (guaranteed graduation in 3-4 years).
