Schools: University of Arizona vs. Union
Intended major: Physics, minor in Chinese or Linguistics
Similarities: overall good academics, would be pretty far from home for both

Union College
Pros:

  • great academics
  • location sorta (town is pretty small, but I’ve always wanted to go to the east coast for college)
  • Small size/community
  • close friends nearby
  • I’ve been aiming for a smaller liberal arts college, so this definitely fits the bill

Cons:

  • expensive (while not a complete deal breaker, cost is definitely the biggest issue)
  • I’ve heard it can be a bit snobby/cliquish
  • fraternities and sororities are apparently pretty big, which really isn’t my thing

University of Arizona
Pros:

  • accepted into the honors college, which has lots of benefits (priority class registration, research/internship access, study abroad, etc.)
  • more resources/opportunities
  • much cheaper

Cons:

  • location and weather, really not fond of the heat or thrilled with overall location
  • I’m pretty introverted and never really wanted to go to a large school, concerned I would feel overwhelmed

Tie-breaking Considerations

  • research/work internship opportunities at Union?
  • neither of these schools were ones that I had considered extensively in the past so any insights would be great!

So I got to UArizona, so I'll be biased

UA Physics is a solid department with a lot of opps fs

#

and I'm in the camp of lowest cost wins

Tho if the weather really doesn't suit you, then it might be worth your while to go to Union
