Schools: Stevens Institute of Technology, Purdue University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Intended major: Stat for Purdue, Econ for Stevens (probably going to try and transfer?), Industrial / Systems Engineering for RPI
Similarities (Stevens and RPI): Both schools are midsize, private research schools that emphasise job placement rates and applied science / engineering.
Similarities (Stevens, RPI, and Purdue): Total cost of attendance is roughly the same, around 40k due to scholarships from RPI and Stevens.
Stevens Pros:
- Campus is really, really nice. (riverfront by NYC)
- avg alumni salaries are really high & there's a decent career services center
- Close to NYC
Stevens Cons: - semi-close to home - it's about 40 minutes away by car.
- campus life is kind of dead, and there's no school spirit
- student stereotypes are not the best (aka nobody has social skills) [this holds true for the Stevens students I know]
- might be hard to transfer out?
RPI Pros
- decently high job placement rate
- bigger than stevens at least
- again, high avg alumni salary
- D1 sports? + an actual school spirit
RPI Cons: - grade deflation under the guise of academic rigor...
- not located in an urban area - troy isn't really a densely populated area compared to Hoboken or NYC
Purdue pros:
- big state school, so there's a decent school spirit
- idk rankings? prestige? it's better-known that the other two at least.
Purdue cons - big state school, so there's a lot of variation
- cornfields.
Tiebreaking considerations:
- honestly at this point I need to decide if I'm going to try to transfer
- also need to figure out if I want to work or go to grad school / masters
