schools: uc berkeley and uc davis
major: plant biology
similarities: the cost of attendance is basically the same for both + i’m instate, accepted to the same major, essentially same quality of education since they’re both ucs
uc berkeley
pros:
- it’s berkeley LOL has a great reputation
- i have a decent amount of family in the area
- easier transportation back home (san diego), can take a bus directly
- research labs w my exact interest
- really strong for my major
- my specific college at berkeley (cnr) is apparently more laid back than the rest of the school
cons: - higher academic pressure (might be a pro since that was what motivated me through hs but also stressful)
- less safe area/not as nice of a campus
- housing difficulties (worse dorms/shortage of nearby apartments in later years)
- generally worse campus
uc davis
pros: - much more laid back vibe
- prettier/more outdoorsy campus (i love nature)
- nicer dorms and available housing
- very walkable/bikable campus
- everyone there seems to be having a really good time lol
- in a safer/more comfortable college town area
- more resources available for my major
- could relatively easily switch to a diff biology if i changed my mind
- farmers markets r my vibe
- likely more field internship/field research opportunities since i’m studying agriculture related things
cons: - difficult transportation back home (either flight or bus/train w several transfers)
- slightly worse reputation
- apparently a lot of bike theft
- people asking me why i didn’t go to berkeley
- never lived in a smaller town so idk if i will like it (i don’t go out much so idk if this will be an issue)
