Major: Biomedical Engineering
(Both schools have a first year eng. curriculum so I can change my mind to a different discipline before sophomore year if I want)

Notes to Consider

  1. I want to get a lot closer with my Filipino culture in college
  2. I’m a hardworking and determined student + value a good work/life balance
  3. Got no financial aid from BOTH schools. Fortunately, money is NOT an issue but it’s still considered in my decision
  4. I live in NJ

Purdue Pros:
Outside comfort zone + will promote growth
Lots of school spirit + fun campus traditions
Great job prospects & opportunities for BME majors
Campus radiates “love of learning”
Highly ranked in engineering
Tight knit community + connection to West Lafayette.
They have an EPICS program where I can engineer solutions and see my direct impact on the community around me.

Cons:
Way more expensive ($46K/year) than Rutgers because I’m out of state.
Has Filipino club but are not apart of the very tight knit East Coast Filipino organization called “FIND.”
Engineering there is very rigorous so majority of time will probably go to academics.
Will probably not accept a majority of my transfer credits according to the course equivalency website.

Rutgers Pros:
It’s cheaper because I’m in state so $36K/year.
Great engineering program
Has Filipino club and IS apart of the very tight knit East Coast Filipino organization called “FIND.”
Still has lots of school spirit from what I’ve heard (They’re in the BIG 10 like Purdue)
Best chance of transferring credits

Cons:
Not too out of my comfort zone. I’m already familiar with the environment.
Bit too close to home though I AM dorming
Not as highly ranked.

Imo I'd think rutgers would be a better choice for you based on your want of getting closer with your Filipino culture. Also transferring credits is good too. irrc new brunswick is a school that is spread over a large area, has like multiple sub-campuses within new brunswick campus itself(busch, college av, livingston, cook, douglass, downtown), so you could feel imo out of your comfort zone in terms of that

Although purdue is equally a great school and will certainly push your comfort zone in terms of acedemics as well
