Schools: Duke vs UIUC
Intended major: Engineering, CS
Similarities: both are T50 overall and T20 for engineering/cs
Costs: Duke: 100k/year, UIUC 72k/year
Duke Pros:
T10 prestige
collaborative environment
People are very friendly from what I heard
flexibility of majors since i still don't know what in STEM i want to do
easy to double major in CS + engineering
raleigh research triangle
good weather
Duke Cons:
expensive (100k)
not as highly ranked in engineering/cs as UIUC (#17 vs #5)
im kinda introverted and its a pretty social place (could also be a pro as it would help me open up more)
UIUC Pros:
Highly regarded in engineering/cs
target for tech companies
relatively cheaper but is still expensive for a state school
UIUC Cons:
I got accepted to aerospace engineering - as an international, I won't have ITAR clearance and basically won't get any internships
no choice but to change majors which is tough
tougher to do a double major
bad weather (its too coldddd)
in the middle of nowhere
really big school so im worried if I'll be able to make good connections with profs
Tiebreaking considerations
While my parents said they can pay for both, duke is still like 28k per year more expensive. Also, UIUC is seen as better in engineering than duke (other than for BME which i don't want to do). Weather is also important to me kinda
