Schools: Princeton and Yale
Intended major: English? Anthropology? Prob something in the humanities but anything could happen.
Similarities: cost, weather, architecture... honestly, I almost think all the most important things are similar between the two. I feel like I'm splitting hairs!
Costs: My parents have made it clear that I should not let the price affect my decision!

Yale

Pros:

  • pre-admitted into Directed Studies, which is something I think I'd really enjoy
  • admitted REA and am just so much more well-informed about Yale. I know so much already and it makes my head hurt to even consider trying to learn all the same things about Pton in under a month
  • I have a friend who attends Yale who has been really supportive and gave me a super long tour of the library, his resco, everything.
  • an airport relatively close to me carries a direct flight to New Haven
  • blue's a nice color! and I met Handsome Dan!
  • you can take classes at the graduate schools
    Cons:
  • the "graduate focus" thing. But my friend at Yale insists that's not true lol
  • no minors, only double majors/certificates

Princeton

Pros:

  • two of my childhood best friends were also admitted, and they'll probably go. It would be amazing to go to school with them.
  • the "undergraduate focus" thing.
  • safer campus?
  • there's def more but idk anything about princeton so idek 💀 that's part of the problem
    School 2 Cons:
  • orange is ugly
  • I just. I just don't know anything about Princeton. The pros and cons of it are so superficial and this imbalance is my biggest problem.

Tiebreaking considerations

  • literally any info on Princeton that could be useful, I want to hear. I feel so overwhelmed!

I will go to BDD and Preview but want to start seriously thinking about both schools before then to give myself time.

pton culture is lowkey also pretty elitist

#

to be honest i dont see how princeton culture is elitist in any way that yales isnt

#

i guess im a biased source though but i truthfully have not encountered any elitism thus far

#

i wish i could help more but i dont know a lot about humanities at yale however i will say one thing i like about princeton is how involved they are in helping you create research opportunities and produce genuinely meaningful scholarship from the get-go

#

im in the midst of it right now and its hard in the moment but im honestly glad im able to get these opportunities with immediate guidance and feedback through freshman writing seminar, theres also an optional sophomore research seminar and then a junior paper and senior thesis

#

and even though its a lot of work i do think its a net positive force in having students be productive in a field theyre interested in, which maybe goes along with the undergraduate focus thing in the sense that it's not an opportunity many people can have

#

but maybe yale has this too idk

#

also perhaps a con is that as of right now its definitely harder to earn an A-range grade at Princeton than Yale based off the statistics of the last academic year for both schools and if you want to go to a highy selective grad school that might be something to consider

Princeton is in the middle of nowhere in NJ plus it's even more full of nepo babies than Yale is. I'd go with Yale were I you.
