Full ride to both b/c national merit. Majoring in mech e at both, but debating to switch to EE after 1st semester.
Texas Tech University (TTU)
School 1 Pros:
Classic big-school Texas college experience: Huge school spirit, Big 12 football/basketball games, tailgates, strong Greek life, traditions, and lively social scene in a dedicated college town (Lubbock revolves around TTU).
Stronger fit for energy-sector Mech E (oil/gas, wind, aerospace) with loyal Texas-wide alumni network (especially West Texas industries). Hands-on programs and practical focus.
Lower cost of living in Lubbock; easier car/parking access, walkable campus feel, less traffic/urban stress.
Scholarship covers full COA with refunds
School 1 Cons:
Lower engineering rankings/reputation nationally (undergrad engineering ~outside top 80โ100 in recent U.S. News; lower than UTD).
Isolated location (Lubbock: flat, windy, 2โ4+ hours from major cities/airports) โ fewer local internships
Less diverse/international vibe compared to DFW metro.
University of Texas at Dallas (UTD)
School 2 Pros:
Stronger engineering reputation and momentum (from what i've seen online)
Prime " location: Texas Instruments HQ, Ericsson, Nokia, defense/tech companies nearby โ unbeatable internship/co-op access starting early, massive career fairs, high placement in competitive roles (many get multiple offers pre-grad).
Easier scholarship renewal (3.0 GPA) + integrated perks . (i think ?? the national merit scholarship at utd is better than tech, feel free to correct me)
More diverse, professional, tech-focused campus with serious/academic vibe
School 2 Cons:
Less traditional "big college" energy: Weaker athletics, Campus feels quieter/ less spirited.
Campus : Traffic, hotter/humid summers, less walkable "college town" charm.
More expensive to live in dallas?
Commuter campus
Also research opps for both kinda seems on the same level, so any opinion on that would help!
