  • Location/Region: Preferably a more urban location although totally fine with lively college towns relative to bustling hubs and or large cities (hour max away). I’d like to attend a school in California because I plan to pursue a career in banking on the west coast but 1000% open to great schools out of state. I’m currently looking into UTA and Mich for reference. I am a resident of SoCal.

  • Major: Economics or finance/business related applications. Applied economics, Financial economics, Finance, Accounting, Business Admin, Entrepreneurship…

  • GPA/Test Scores: UW: 3.74, W: 4.3 Test scores: 4’s, 5’s on 10 ap’s I took no SAT or ACT.

  • Curriculum: Hope the university has heavy study in banking related electives and skills. Preparation in Venture capital, Private equity, Banking and finance/ fintech, and infrastructure. Absolutely needs to have amazing banking and consulting clubs/investment societies with deep rooted connections in banks. As well as real projects for banks and related companies most similar to USC’s Trojan Venture Partners or similar.

  • Size: How large do you want your college/class sizes? Preferably a larger school im very big on culture and social scene, USC being best reference of that but again open.

  • Costs: What's your budget: I am open to anything even if it’s really expensive. Yearly speaking tuition+cost of living can exceed 100k if need be but needs to be an EXCELLENT option for my career and network.

  • Schools You're Currently Looking At: Top choices are USC, Stanford, UCB, UTA, UMich, UPenn, Yale. Mid range Santa Clara, Pepperdine, Southern Methodist.

Can’t wait to see what you all have to say, can’t tell you how grateful I am, additionally I can provide more context I have a very unique case with extremely strong ec’s as well as additional info for my lacking grades.

Also for the mods please don’t flame my accuracy on the format, discord doesn’t let me post above certain #characters

I would highly recommend Georgetown University! It's currently #2 in the country for investment banking and there's definitely a preprofessional vibe to the business school there. You can also get a lot more internships than at a place like Stanford because it's right in the middle of DC. They also heavily value ECs. However, Georgetown is a test required school, so I would highly recommend you take the SAT, not just for Georgetown but for most top schools which are no longer test optional

There's a lot of really great schools for finance on the east coast like Wharton, Georgetown, MIT, Harvard, NYU Stern, Cornell, etc. I think that even if you want to pursue a West Coast banking career, going to a school in the East isn't necessarily going to preclude you from those jobs.

#

I would also suggest you apply to some other UCs as safeties because you have a huge advantage as an in-state student, even if their business programs aren't as optimal. UCSD and UCLA come to mind as targets/reaches, and then you could also apply somewhere like UCSC. The UC applications are completely combined, so all you need to do in order to apply to more than 1 UC campus is simply check a box and pay the fee

#

The University of California system is completely test-blind, which means that if you for some reason can't take the SAT/ACT, not having it won't disadvantage you at all compared to other schools where applicants will be taking the test and it could boost their applications

You can check out this thread #1462945651162878072

However you really should be taking the SAT or ACT. Do you plan to?

That’s another one of my concerns is my grades are mid

And I have a very solid explanation so I hope top schools understand

I had full time primary caretaking duties of a terminally ill person (my grandpa) throughout the end of my sophomore year and early this year and then my mom was diagnosed with equally as trying issues so I’ve had to help her. I really do want to go to a top school praying for penn or business adjacent like Stanford or my absolute dream USC

Emory's business school is interesting and I know they have an investment club, idk much besides that.

I know University of Washington is on the west coast sooo that could be worth looking into.

# quaint plume Yes I’m planning to

to be frank, take the sat/act and see what you score. from there you can consider what's in reason for you out of the top choices. schools like stanford or upenn are only going to be realistic for you if you can ace the sat/act and get rid of any doubts regarding your gpa

#

even if you do have a strong reason as to why it's lower, a high standardized test score can go a long way in compensating for it

stanford and wharton are NOT only realistic with a 1600
