Location/Region: I am looking for schools in the United States. Location does not matter that much but I would avoid the states of the West Coast (California, Oregon, Washington) and Illinois.

Major: I plan studying something out of biochemistry, microbiology and allied health. Feel free to drop some suggestions.

GPA/Test Scores: I plan on maintaining GPA above 3.2 . Seems pretty realistic to do right now.

Curriculum: N/A

Size: I prefer a big/medium school with good student life (parties) with small or medium class sizes. Could also be a not that big school with a couple of thousands of students.

Costs: Up to 57k annuanly without aid. I could use automatic (or not) scholarships.

Schools You're Currently Looking At:
Listed by preference

Ole Miss (University of Mississippi)
Arizona State University
Iowa State University
Mississippi State University
East Carolina University
Appalachian State University
University of Iowa
Troy University
Louisiana State University
Northern Arizona University

Trying to decide whether to include Miami University (Public Ivy in Ohio) and Pittsburg State University (Kansas), feel free to tell whether to do it or not.

Additional: I prefer a test-optional school that also accepts Duolingo English Test and isn't selective (I consider schools selective for me if their acceptance rate is like under 70%). The student life is also important for me since I'd like to compensate years of boredom and stress, but decent academics are also important.

Thanks in advance!

If you're considering Ohio schools for health-related fields (I'm from Ohio): University of Cincinnati, University of Toledo and Wright State are better options. University of Cincinnati is probably most in line for what you're looking for in terms of the size/school spirit/parties + good academics.

#

I would see if you meet the recs/budget or automatic scholarship opportunities for the University of Kansas instead of the Pittsburgh school you mentioned

#

Other programs you can consider (idk whether they meet your criteria off the top of my head): Mercer, Michigan State, NJIT, Duquesne, Rowan, Ohio University, Thomas Jefferson, University of Minnesota, University of Kentucky, University of Missouri

#

West Virginia University, University of Colorado Boulder, University of Delaware, Temple, Texas Tech, University of Alabama

I almost turned to alcoholism

late furnace
#

omg lol im sorry

still path
#

But life goes on when you have Ole Miss

stone moon
#

idk if these schools are test required or not but check out Rochester Inst. of Tech (RIT)

still path
#

I think I had Ohio University on my list

#

But I couldn’t decide

stone moon
#

also worcester polytechnic

#

i remember virginia tech being test optional as well

still path
stone moon
#

why....

still path
#

Lmao

late furnace
#

wpi is really good

stone moon
#

i think RIT is test optional check that out

#

my friend goes there and she loves it

still path
#

A politech where I come from is a community college

#

But like

#

3 times worse

late furnace
#

ohhh that's not the same here

still path
#

Yeah I know

#

Btw do you pronounce Worcester as Wostah or Worchester?

stone moon
#

im pretty sure it's "supposed" to be wuh-ster but i will never say it like that

#

i say wore-chester

late furnace
#

Virginia Commonweslth University cold also be an option

stone moon
#

oh yes check out james madison uni and old dominion uni

late furnace
#

University of Iowa and University of Houston too

#

you have a lot of options loll

still path
still path
late furnace
#

oh i forgot you had university of iowa already

still path
late furnace
#

but yeah VCU has a medical school which means it probably has a lot of hospital and medical partnerships in that area in general where you could find different programs to get a job in that sector

#

I know you like Ole Miss a lot. Are there a specific academic aspects that you like about it?

still path
#

If I do radiology science there I will do 2 years of classwork at the university and then 2 clinical years at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson

#

I asked the admissions office if internationals are allowed to complete these programs in the intended way, but I didn’t receive an answer yet

#

So I assume yes if you can choose it on the application

late furnace
#

Gotchyah!

Thanks bro

@late furnace This one

gotchyah

#

Do you know which of these schools are in or closest to your new budget?

#

Also I would get an estimated range of potential cost by seeing what it would be if your gpa was 3.3 - 3.7 or guesstimate at 3.5

still path
#

And maybe Troy University

late furnace
still path
#

It's about 3.3 according to the most of the sources, and according to the EducationUSA it is

#

one moment

#

According to the EducationUSA it is about 3.5-3.6

late furnace
#

ok then do all your scholarship estimates as a range between 3.3 and 3.5. to at least see if your gpa gets converted to a 3.5 (best case scenario)what could it cost. and what it would cost as a 3.3 (worst case scenario)

so all of your schools cost of attendance estimatations would be a range of like $30k-$40k instead of just one number

still path
#

That's... much better, gotta say

#

I am kinda busy right now, I will calculate other ones when I will be free

late furnace
#

yay. do you have a spreadsheet where you're storing all your school research?

still path
late furnace
#

yes make the rows the school names and have some financial info columns: total cost, cost with 3.3 gpa, cost with 3.5 gpa.

also have columns for location, potential majors, application deadline, application fee, # of undergraduates and whatever other factors are important to you

late furnace
late furnace
#

the university of memphis would be lcosest in budget for you so frar

still path
#

Thanks!!!

late furnace
#

no problem!

#

I'm curious to know how your spreadsheet turns out and whether you find if any of the schools are in budget for you with a 3.5ish gpa

I am searching scholarships for LSU right now, can't find anything except for Stamps

late furnace
#

for all of these pages are you including the hyperlink in the spreadsheet?

still path
#

I am just writing numbers down

#

Wellll I guess I can't find anything for LSU

late furnace
# still path I am just writing numbers down

I would hyperlink those numbers so you can revisit the page throughout the app cycle, especially as they might update the pages for 2026-2027.

You can do ctrl+K in google sheets

still path
#

Or is it just for this year?

late furnace
#

just for this year

still path
#

thx

still path
#

@late furnace

#

Mississippi state more of an unsure, idk if I even qualify

#

UCincy has a competitive scholarship, so it's questionable whether I can get it

late furnace
# still path <@466416853669904385>

you need to make the tuition/fees column the total cost of attendance which is tuition/fees/housing/food/travel and other personal estimates. but definitely need to include the housing/food budget

still path
late furnace
#

ok. because that's like the main cost. tuition is going to only be like 50-75% of what it is you'd actually need to pay

#

for example this is ASU's for an international student

still path
# late furnace

I will still keep it on my list since they have an exclusive scholarship portal

#

Which means that there is something to fight for!

late furnace
#

love the optimism but also healthy realism is good too lol

#

you should add university of memphis

still path
still path
late furnace
#

It should be of equal caliber to your other options yeah

still path
#

But if they have a special portal, then they have something to hide

late furnace
#

ummmmm. I do'nt think that's typically how that works

late furnace
still path
#

thanks

late furnace
#

before you apply if a school's website doesn't distinguish between nonresident and international student eligible, you should just email and ask

still path
#

I'd like to text MS state, but I don't know whether I should text to the international institute or the office of admissions

late furnace
#

admissions

still path
still path
#

Tried estimating

late furnace
#

ok nice

still path
#

@late furnace Do you think he meant that I am eligible? 🙏

late furnace
#

Yep. His answer was unclear but all in all, affirmative!
