At the same time research universities like Duke, Yale, Northwestern will have larger/broader research depts
I know a homeschooler with lower stats academically (probably better ecs though) that got into a lot of target LACS so I wouldn't sell yourself short in thatb regard
when you mention like sociology/education studies/physics would you say like a school that has a lot of tutoring extracurricular resources and like maybe a degree in stem education would be of interest to you?
Ig I'm curious if you're interested in academia for the teaching skills aspect or because you want to do mostly research and teach on the side
Because a lot of my engineering professors at Duke got PhDs in engineering education which was cool
that’s good to add as a ec
is there other stuff you do like jobs or like task for ogherd
hmmm a lot of people tutor but don't apply for education so I wouldn't necessarily go for that if it's not what you want to do as much as physics
very good
omg!! I was about to ask if you like music
do you have anything in regards to physics as an ecs
sure! that can all be true and you still apply for physics. your ecs aren't expected to match your intended major
maybe the 5cs like pomona or harvey mudd
it's def not too late, lots of seniors add experiences to their app senior year
oh i saw ur stats were pretty competitive so i suggested
oh yeah scripps, claremont mckenna, pitzer, occidental
I would look at Oberlin College, Hamilton, Davidson, Richmond, Barnard, Kenyon
Pepperdine ?
Cornell
Why
If you're interested in Wellesley, you should also look at Barnard and Bryn Mawr.
Also, you can have reaches on your list. Make a spreadsheet and make sure you have at least 2-3 schools that are a) affordable/cheap/free b) greater than 60% acceptance rate. then for the rest of your list you can shotgun if you're really happy with your safeties
what are the schools that you have on your list?
ok, so now you need to narrow it down to like 20 common application schools maximum
georgetown isn't going to be the best for physics research compared to the other schools on your list
rutgers, umich, and unc are really large and like the opposite vibes of a small LAC
jhu is also kinda random. you have to really like the school's offerings to want to tolerate living near/around baltimore lowkey
cornell outranks duke, northwestern, boston university, vanderbilt, carnegie mellon in physics and has like the same aceptance rate as them
no it's because baltimore city is like dangerous, all the buildings have to be locked access (not the case at most uni's that are in cities/suburbia). they pretty much advise not to go off campus without a buddy system in place. obviously it's not too horrible that the school can't exist, but it's unnecessary external stress that you wouldn't experience at other schools. and then the internal school environment is notoriously competitive over collaborative (mostly in reference to pre-med students there).
I know people who went there though but again you have to really like the school itself
yeah it's really high ranked for it and really cutthroat
it's also not difficult to switch at cornell?
but you're the type of person duke is looking for?
i'm saying why not replace duke or any of the other options with cornell if it's a better school for your interests and they have the same admissions chances
anyways a cool school to look at could be Simmons University
? U have a 3.98 and 1500v
Cornell has a 3+3 law program
Its not that deep
Shoot ur shot if u want it
Or admit u dont wanna apply
😭
I had a 3.7
Yeah probably bc their essays r shit
Its not just abt the stats or ecs
Its abt the match
I didnt have any of this
So
And ik multiple ppl who didnt have any of that
My hs didnt offer a lot
I took maybe 6 ap classes?
8 exams
Yes
Lol
Also everything im saying doesnt just apply to cornell
It applies to other t50s
Personally maybe im not so sure abt hypsm, nyu, caltech, duke
But most of the rest ik dont just discount u for ecs or smth
And ur stats r fine ignoring that
So u have a foot in the door regardless
Well i wasnt asking
I was saying idk much abt those
Cornell cas doesnt admit by major
So they dont care
you should add a column for acceptance rate so you can visualize the selectivity of the schools and maybe replace some of the more selective schools with "target" schools, assuming you find target schools you'd even like over just going the cc transfer route. if you're positive about the cc transfer route path then your state schools + cc + shotgunning could be ok, but it's very much all or "nothing" (but not really nothing because cc to transfer route is still great, just different)
I mean like you could at least have a couple schools with a ~30% acceptance rate lol
couple
