So... how can one get in test-optional?
Gig Em
Is it actually hard to get in if you're not in the top 10%?
my friend's brother got in last year for engineering and he wasn't top ten percent but i don't really know. It's probably pretty hard but not challenging
worse aggies 😭 🙏
i was nowhere near top 10% but i had national merit finalist and 1560 sat
so like very possible js have good sat
Me, a Davis Aggie who went to school in the same town as TAMU: 👀
Is this billert /j
i honestly wouldn't be surprised
how good is tamu for consulting, wealth management, IB (corp.finance etc.)
its a top state school for me if anyone is breaking into this and currently at tamu
plz pm bcs i got some general questions
are yall just reusing the common app essay for the essay 1?
That's what I've been wondering.
12th man or smth
Howdy 🤠
got my acceptance to A&M mays college station
yes they even say you can do that on the app if im not mistaken
congrats!
Is this place too red..
I just got accepted into eng
But how hard is it to etam cs
Many AOs from a&m say that we can
Submitted engineering app yday hoping I can get in. Were u in state ir out
Lowkey reused one of my Tamu supps for the scholarship essay so hoping that’s fine
In state
I submitted my eng like 2 weeks ago ish
Nahh, you'll be fine
They don't really care
What does this refer to https://www.ebay.com/itm/374339368444
Good question
Unfort me and billert are in the 3%
Does anyone have an answer to this?
Not hard
This cycle basically everyone who applied, even if gpa < 3.75, got in
I am not aware of a super strong rivalry between tamu and tech
Oh bet.
for sat act are we supposed to send through collegeboard?
Idek what this had to do w that
its to revive the thread
start another discussion if youd like
hi tamu people
oo i see
heyy, how's ee
(looks around in my high school being a top feeder to tamu but i attend ucd:)
i havent done ee classes yet
but im looking forward to them
first semester and maybe year most people do gen eng curriculum
even if you already have your major
which i do
ohh i see
wait
waitt
isnt
ee
etam
how'd you get in already?
(i wanna do cs, which is also etam, so curious fr)
i think main way is national merit
im not sure of other ways
oh
wait is it at college station
yeah
Hey Aggies, what are the stats looking like for an a highschool student to be admitted to Elec Eng/Mech Eng
Are you national merit or smth
Otherwise you'd be admitted to general engineering
I had a 3.3/4.1 with 1560 + national merit finalist
nuh uh i got a 4.0 uw 4.58 w 1430 (740 math), i guess im gen eng
also only first quarter not top 10% cuz i ws a junior transfer and my school is uber competive
As long as you work somewhat decently hard during first year it's pretty easy to get your major
Even majors like cs have been accepting a lot
Engineering honors should be better
Let me check rq
University honors and engineering honors give you the same benefits I believe
But university honors you have to take a 1 credit hour class for honors
And engineering honors gets you honors advisors specific to your major
university honors is a headache freshman year
engineering honors is a headache senior year
just do engineering honors and drop it before you grad
is engi rolling?
a friend of mine submitted his back in september but he still hasnt heard back
i submitted my app 3-4 weeks after him and got my results back pretty quick
so am confused
Should be
also how expensive is it to off campus apartment compared to dorms?
I heard back already this time last year
his stats arent crazy but its comp enough i feel like
1400 sat and a 4.6 gpa should be plenty to get in right
oh
my howdy doesnt work
even if ais isnt updated?
oh
for howdy
did u have a tamu email
or did u make a tamu email?
my howdy doesnt log in cause my gmail connected to microsoft and it messes everything up
I think so yeah
Also regarding off campus apartments
It's really just closer to campus is more expensive
do you live off campus?
Yes
i heard theres a lot more cost to dorming
Only thing I can think of is a required meal plan
dining hall pass is required w dorming and i heard theres extra things like that too
But imo meal plan is very convenient
What else other than meal plan
Currently I'm paying 1050 a month for my apartment and it's literally right off campus
But they reduced my rates next year to 850
There are really cheap dorms
Just depends on if ur fine sharing room and bathroom
oh so ur sharing a room w someone
ive been looking at northgate and ucentre
its super nice but northgate hella expensive lol
I share a common area but I have my own room and bathroom
oh thats nice
i hate dorming
i like having my own private space
sharing a bedroom with someone = 0 privacy
next year im doing apartment w/ some friends for 720/mo
i need to find somewhere cheap
This fr
Just depends how much ur willing to commute
like a mile w a scooter cant be that bad
do freshies gotta stay on campus
No
i contemplated applying here
im p sure i missed the deadline tho, unless if its rolling 😭
it is rolling
i think it depends on ur major tho
my family’s legacy will continue lol
but no, i currently do not have it in me to apply to another school i don’t wanna see common app ever again
is university honors worth it
no
thx
is anyone currently in mays or knows someone that is in mays pursuing finance?
one of my family friends is a mays professor but i probably cant help you with anything
im so confused
i applied on 12/1 and apparently got my decision of accepted on 12/10
and they never emailed me
is this normal?
i thought it comes out like after jan
i think? my friend also got accepted but she was auto admit
ah okay
im oos so i wasnt expecting it
what major?
they get back to u really fast
and there was a way you could check through howdy portal a couple days earlier
apply to both and see where you get in kek
I am in but no scholarship information on the admission letter
comes out march i think
dumb question but do yall think yield protection exists for a&m if ur instate+10% rule
What
No
for tamu aggie to medicine early assurance program\
is it you applying after your freshmen year
or applying during your soph year
is college station woke or nah in yalls experience
i'd be coming from a big city in tx so that's my reference
brown foundation ghosted me after putting me on a shortlist and requesting letters of recommendation
screw brown (jk he funds all the national merit scholarships as well)
Damn this guy is rich then
oil money
Wait like isn't there a lot of national merits
around 150 per year
did yall have to take the tsi
What
No
thats 40.8mil/yr, so you could fund that purely off capital gains with a 612mil principal
400 national merits, 200 brown scholars
Oh
oh cause sat/act made up for it?
Shouldn't it be less cause 42k is over 4 yrs
Yeah
oh right
divide by 4
you only need a 153mil principal to fund the scholarship
endowment money
Only 153 mil 😭
if you put 72k a year into the market, you have enough money to become financially independent after only 15 years
yep
Or like 150k
this is how you build generational wealth
qhat r capital gains
acc? how much money is "financially independent" tho
money in the stock market, on average, earns 6.5% a year after accounting for inflation
you have so much money from stock market capital gains that you can fund your own living
as if it was income
1.08 mil after 15 yrs
oh
isnt that taxed tho if you withdraw that?
capital gains are taxed yes
i believe just like regular income
but capital gains withdrawn from a roth ira is not taxed
don't u have to wait like 30 yrs tho
i think i saw somewhere that you can withdraw the principal before youre old
oh
are you majoring in econ or smth at a&m
computer science
no, faang
oh fr? how is it
isnt that like 80 hr weeks but 9 gazillion dollars a year
Worth
if u aint passionate thatd sound like hell lwk
Anything for money gang
whats the point if u cant even enjoy it
I just rejtre early
at least go all in on smth ur passionate ab that still makes money
Lmao
that lwk might be method i forgot ab that
I'm gonna get tocuhed in ee
Quantitative finance (Quant) salaries, especially from top "Ivy" level schools (Ivy League + similar caliber), are extremely high, starting well into the six figures for entry-level roles (often $250K-$400K+ total comp) and escalating rapidly with bonuses, with senior quants at elite firms like Citadel, Jane Street, or Two Sigma potentially earning $500K to over $1 Million annually, depending on performance and role.
idk how much is needed to retire esp in hcol areas tho
what if hcol area tho
ig just move to lower col city then
Ig
decent
And if u want to travel
wtm after college
what's "wtm"
What's the move
faang
where do i see financial aide
is it out yet somewhere in howdy or does it come out later
theres nothing on "financial aide" in howdy portal other then what to submit and fafsa
i remember accessing it thru howdy
does it come out whenever u get admitted or does it come out later
When do most decisions come out?
when do engi decisions come out
engineering?
when did u apply
tamu is rolling im p sure
like mid october
oh
it should be out
like i applied similar time and i knew already
did u check howdy
Guys I didnt get admitted to College Station but TEAB
should I break down
or should I attend and transfer onto main campus later
is it really the same
am I guaranteed admission to TAMU College Station after a year
ye i am
arent decisions today? my friend was notified of a waitlist
did anyone else just recieve their financial aid offer if you are already admitted?
i did
got nothing from fafsa
yes
looking like TAMU, anyone looking for a roomate? Im certainly too late to get housing lmao
are off campus apts an option for u?
also theres roommate search on tamu housing portal i think
hi guys since my friend doesn’t have discord so im asking for her, she’s wondering how long does it take to get accepted into tamu? she applied in like the last week over november and she’s also auto admit
she’s 1000% wanting to go there she’s just waiting to hear back😭
usually pretty fast
Hey guys, I'm new over here and I applied to TAMU for Forensics on december. I still don't have an answer, has anyone been admitted at this? for holistic review.
Did anyone get the alternativie thingy
I got it now. It also said all the spots have been filled up now.
What alternative thingy
TSA or PSA (it’s one of those two) (the TAMU version of CAP from UT)
I doubt anyone in here didnt get in
hi
would one need a car if they attended here? asking cause my family doesn't have a car (saving up for one) and i rlly don't want to have to save up for another one when i get the first one
saving up for the 1st one is alr difficult 😭
is there any a&m dc server that anyone not just students can join
None of the discords are restricted to students only
If you just want to pop and and say hi nobody will care
oh fr
wait i cant find any servers for like general a&m stuff, its just student orgs
there isn't a general discord
Well there is one but it's dead and unmoderated
i found an engineering one
If you're looking for something like that try the subreddit
fair enough
that's pretty misleading cuz that includes auto admit, non auto admit, and i think TEAM and blinn
So the real acceptance rate is far lower…
it depends on who u r but yeah
And I wanted to apply there
if ur auto admit i think it's not bad
Yeah I realized that I shouldn’t early enough
Auto admit is a good thing
there's a page on their site ab admissions lemme find it
I read it dw
Yeah of course
so why not apply and see what happens
But I am not that good for colleges like A&M
Because I already know the result
i mean u don't rlly know till u apply and they give u a decision
It’s true
The thing is, I’ve seen what people get into TAMU and what stats they have
I am not one of them
also that mindset doesnt rlly fare well in life there's so many ppl that apply to stuff they think they will never get and they get it
theres no harm in trying bro 😭
I’m just trying to think realistically
I know
its your life at the end of the day
