Yeah
Nope, but my top school I'm planning on applying next year
Student culture definitely plays a role in the undergrad experience, for me it was a huge factor
Good luck man
People who don't consider it, I imagine, regret their chice eventually
It's either this school or darmouth tbh for completely different reasons
Ohh nice
You'll get it
Are you pre-law
I’m not
Hey guys were yall able to set up your brown emails, and did you receive anything yet
I just wanna make sure I am not behind on any forms or anything
How long ago did you commit?
on the 23rd
Has anyone gotten off the waitlist 🥺🥺🥺🥺
You'll get a financial agreement to sign
But besides that, unless you're International, I don't know what else you should expect
Haven't seen anyone who has
they told me to activate my email and i think i did but i dont know how to verify
and also do you know when stuff like housing form / general announcements begin being sent
If you can login then it is
I think June to July
Some things may roll out late this month maybe
alright thank you
laugh track
I don’t get it
thats what they all say
nobody actually finishes with the double anymore
Oh, why though?
Especially if Brown students usually have many different interests
i emailed them cuz i didnt get my student email which i needed asap (im an intl student so i have to apply for a student visa etc)
and the next day i was given login information
now it's fully activated
u can get free access to the atlantic etc 😎
Holy shizzle
My school’s counselor just told me he needs to meet with me
Based on a call he received from a Brown AO
Sonion
projecting
im just built different
double is highkey chunky since it kills a lot of your flexibility, it basically forces all your electives into one major which hurts peoples breadth
you have to commit really early IMO
also like its just hard man
no bro let them double
but yes doubling is overrated tbh unless you plan to ROI both degrees
my friend came in planning to do a ScB CS and Music double (25 credits) and he decided he didnt feel like it one credit away from finishing his music degree
^
doubling is mostly overrated
i know a lot of people who were cs visa and dropped the visa
that being said, visa is a huge time commitment
but yeah like most people i meet go like “yeah im dropping that part”
Brown AO apparently asked him if I was still interested and mentioned that I never submitted a LOCI 😓
He told my counselor that if I submitted one by tonight he’d be able to use it to advocate for me in committee
So very interesting
That's a good sihn
Would you change your mind on columbia
Lowk prolly not
The reason I didn’t send a LOCI was that like
If I got into Brown off waitlist
I wouldn’t have the time I need to make a good decision
Because I wouldn’t even get to tour
I’d have like…
3 days
Then probably don’t do a LOCI
Because if you do ur essentially taking a spot from someone else
ur gonna be leaving the lions..
Lowk depending on your goals brown>columbia
That’s a good point
I think I’ll leave it for now and see what happens based on my classes during freshman year. They might (or might not) gravitate towards two main concentrations so that graduating with a double would happen ‘by itself’
I’m probably not making sense haha
We all know what you mean
The reason Brown is better than the other schools is that you are given agency to direct your own learning
Key word is learning
Not degree acquisition
For the aim of learning your classes should gravitate to what you feel like learning
idk....
Did u ever visit brown?
brown v columbia is the most geeked choice out of any of the two ivies for me bruh 😭
any othr set of 2 and I prolly wouldn't have an issue
How is this a choice
Brown and Columbia are opposite academic formulations
Do you want the core curriculum experience or the open curriculum experience
You do not need to tour 😭
nah
i think theres a very sizable subsection of people who will use the open curriculum like a core curriculum in terms of breadth
lowk that was me
at least going in
that being said theres way more important differences than curriculum to look at
(social culture, urban environment)
That too
Personally I used the open curriculum as a way to avoid taking classes I don’t like in subjects I don’t care about
I'm lowkey gonna squeeze you son
for me the open curriculum is an opportunity to take lots of classes in terms of breadth, so it's a lot more similar to the core
that's not really the experience i'm looking for w/ the core, personally
Never heard that one before
Yeah I liked being able to take sociology, philosophy, psychology, political science but I wanted to be able to choose how I execute my breadth
Also I really needed the academic flexibility Brown includes
Columbia there’s less siloing because of core classes
Versus at Brown if you’re in the CS world you deadass might go 4 years without speaking to someone in Education
that's one thing about columbia I like
are you a STEM major
iirc econ
Linguistics and Econ-Math
mm that’s hard then
Are you pre-law or something else
considering pre-law
I feel like depending on ur professional goals one school might be better than the other
not really dead set on one thing
considering law, finance(blergh) and grad school
finance 💀 💀
Well I think both are good for both paths
If you like the core then Columbia will be great for pre law
So I feel like it’s more based on fit for this path
Tho if it was for like engineering or something then Columbia is noticeably better
They’re pretty clearly equal for anything but like IB recruiting ss far as I can see
In terms of wjat I might do
right
brown's such a cool school
i also love the fact that all the knowledge i'll be accumulating in different areas of study will end up showing in my senior thesis in philosophy
brown vs columbia is a lot about major i think
like i would love to study at brown bc of freedom of curriculum but for engineering columbia is kind of a no brainer
Columbia philosophy is also amazing
Prob top 3 in the country
And the core being very overlapped is really nice
yea
my friend applied econ + philosophy instead of pure econ and was sad he got rejected lol
I'm a HS student dawg
And intl. I don't think there would be any use for me
I was js wondering
ah no worries
